Had one of these for my Openreach van before I left at the end of March. They had the techs from the contractors looking at my van all the time as I kept vanishing from the controls screen.

I can't thnk why on earth they would be illegal? It's possible that some forward thinking businesses have made their use in company vehicles a misconduct issue, but as long as they're not powerful enough to interfere with other peoples equipment I doubt very much that they're illegal.

Worth noting that this sort of thing wouldn't prevent Tracker (the stolen vehcle tracking system) from working, as I believe that broadcasts a VHF "homing beacon" rather than utilising GPS in any way.

    WHY ?

Because they would stop the TRACKER system fitted to high-end cars from working. Its designed to stop them from been stolen, but this stupid product would render it useless. I really can't believe its allowed to be sold in the UK, its only use is to facciliate crime.

Ownership of the technology is a legal grey area even though it is against the law in both the UK and Germany to either sell or use jamming devices. GPS satellite signals are low power, so jamming devices need not be powerful.

Please explain how a GPS blocking device could prevent the TRACKER VHF beacon from being broadcast from a stolen vehicle? Also, TRACKER isn't designed to prevent vehicles from beng stolen, it's designed to allow them to be recovered easily AFTER they've been stolen.

There is a clue in the title "Anti-Tracker"
  24. neomayemer's avatar
Because the VHF signal requires a GPS component to transmit through data services as one of its defence countermeasures? The other method requires you to be in the vicinity of a receiver able to pick up the VHF signal no?

There is a clue in the title "Anti-Tracker"

There's a difference between any of the large number of GPS tracking systems available, and the TRACKER stolen vehicle recovery system, - i.e. My company vehicle has a GPS trackng system so that my boss can check where I am, it also has a TRACKER system ftted, - this gadget would stop my boss from seeing where I was via the GPS tracking system, but would not stop the police finding my vehicle if t was stolen and TRACKER was activated.

    No: tracker.co.uk/TRA…spx

"Vehicle crime is an ever-present problem in the UK so it is important to protect your assets against theft and the inconveniences that come with vehicle theft. All TRACKER’s stolen vehicle recovery products are operated by all 52 police forces in the UK. Our unique Very High Frequency (VHF) radio technology is unlike our competitors’ GPS-based systems that rely on being able to see the sky. If your vehicle is parked underground, inside a garage or in a shipping container, our VHF-based technology means that your vehicle can be tracked, unlike the GPS-based products our rivals produce.
TRACKER has recovered vehicles collectively worth over £400 million pounds since 1993 and enabled the police to make over 1900 arrests. "

I guess they mean it wont affect other cars near you.
e.g. it's only supposed to block GPS on your own vehicle

    But who knows?

Stage 3: The silent signal can now be picked up by any of the UK's 52 police forces that are within the vicinity of the stolen vehicle. The signal will direct the police to the exact location of the stolen vehicle.

So... how far is "the vicinity" either way jamming GPS is illegal and this device has spurious uses.

Will this definitely block my company tracking my van when I go home early, and how do you know its working is there any way to check.
  32. RedSkywalker's avatar
This is low power so I'm not convinced it would disable a gps tracker fitted with an external aerial as many company vehicles are!

I think the aerials on mine are stuck on the windscreen will it work ?
