About this deal

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

was surprised to see this cracker of a bold red reduced so heavily.

i bought seven bottles - wasn’t going to miss this deal!

The Tannat vine creates rich, juicy dark fruit flavours with mineral notes and a full-bodied taste. Yet with the Uruguayan vineyards so close to the Atlantic Ocean, a cooling sea breeze creates a perfectly balanced and wonderfully fresh finish. A beautiful accompaniment to beef, duck and cheese.

Cheap wines are full of chemicals...

    £6.50 isn't horrendously cheap.

And you're right about cheap wines being full of chemicals... As are all expensive wines!

Water or H2o is fairly abundant in it. That's a crazy chemical that one. And...
As it was a bit too wordy for me, I've just copied:

Chemical Properties of Phenolic Compounds in Red Wine
The pulp, skin, seeds, and stems of grapes of the Vitis genus are relatively rich in nonflavonoid compounds.19 Polyphenols are the main phenolic compounds extracted from grapes during the winemaking process, initially obtained by the crushing of the fruit, and intensified by the maceration and pumping-over processes during fermentation.

The total amount of polyphenols in red wines has been estimated to range from 2000 to 6000 mg/L,20 as shown in Table 1. The main bioactive polyphenols in red wines are notably flavanols, flavonols, anthocyanins, and resveratrol.21 Flavonoids, which account for over 85% of the phenolic components in red wine, include different molecular families such as flavonols [eg, monomeric (catechin, epicatechin), oligomeric, and polymeric compounds (proanthocyanidins, also called condensed tannins)], flavones, anthocyanins,1 flavan-3-ols, catechins, and epicatechins.

    Chemicals everywhere!

It makes me laugh that people throw that word around like it's a bad thing. (edited)

From a £2.99 bottle, 50p is VAT and £2.23 is the duty, so the 26p that’s left covers everything else (profits, shipping, glass bottle and also the wine itself!) They’ll recoup their losses on the other things they hope you’ll buy while you’re in the shop.

Loads of different wines were reduced to £2.99 in Newton Abbot store tonight. Plenty to choose from.

My local didn't have this one, but did have a selection of others at £2.99 - mostly rosés and whites down from circa £6. Worth a look, they're probably clearing a few lines.

Pre-Xmas, our local Lidl were selling off a pallet of Bordeaux @ £2.99 a bottle (13.5% abv). I usually get my wine club and a similar bottle was priced at £14.99, so I took a punt and bought 18 bottles, figuring I could always use it as floor cleaner if it was pants. I actually found it to be better than the £15 bottle.

If this is pretty awful, then £3 to confirm (in the interest of science - as is all my interactions with alcohol) is a fairly cheap experiment. If it's fairly decent, then you'll be extremely emotionally fulfilled!

I would rather pay a little more for this year's model. It will feature the latest grapes, and the newest cork technology.

You should set aside any snobbery and take a closer look at the wines Lidl and Aldi reduce to clear (typically £3.99 at the end of a Lidl wine promotion, ready for the next), especially less well-known appellations.

...or not, and leave more for the rest of us, up to you.

Agree re the mug buyers / wine snobs. Aldi are obviously knocking it out at this price to free up shelf or warehouse space as they'll no longer be selling it.

Yes, nationwide, clearing stock so may not be any in your local but if they have some it will be this price.

If you go to a restaurant in Uruguay, a wine or a Coca Cola bottle costs about the same (and the meat is the best in the world).

It’s also not difficult to find good wines for less than €5 in Italy.
