Days Gone is an open-world action game set in the high-desert of the Pacific Northwest two years after a mysterious global pandemic has decimated the world, killing most but transforming millions into mindless, feral creatures. Survivors live in a world where resources are scarce, violence and murder are common and Freakers roam the wilderness. Players face this violent, new world as Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter, a Drifter who lives in the lawless wilderness outside the civilian encampments. Deacon survives by using skills learned before the world ended, riding for the Mongrels MC, an outlawed motorcycle club, where violence and mayhem were part of the riding the open road. At the center of it all, Days Gone is an exploration of how any of us would react to these harsh conditions, and exploration of loss, love, friendship, revenge and desperation – learning that surviving isn’t living. For Deacon especially, it’s a struggle to ensure that hope never dies.

  • Expansive Open World Action – Exemplifying truly free-form gameplay, Days Gone offers freedom to explore, strategize and play “your way” in the vast high-desert of the Pacific Northwest. The hazardous environments, filled with carved out ridges, mountains, caves, cliffs mines and river basins, deliver a breathtaking backdrop to an equally diverse style of gameplay.
  • Emergent Gameplay – Featuring fully explorable environments and dynamic AI enemies, players will rely on their own abilities to strategize, craft weapons and tools, explore the world, and engage in combat. With almost every car, building and environment searchable, Days Gone delivers emergent gameplay possibilities, making a player’s approach to combat and discovery a vital part of the experience.
  • Stunning, Dynamic Graphics – Using the power of PlayStation 4 and Unreal Engine 4, Bend Studio has developed a high volume of rendering and gameplay technology to deliver an incredibly realistic open world experience. Realistic weather effects, such as rain, wind, snow and day-night cycles impact the gameplay. The game’s lighting is all real-time and reacts dynamically, the way the human iris does, as players move from one location to the next.

Like others say, I wasn't 100% sure about it initially after playing the start and actually shelved it for months, then came back to it and got stuck in to find a brilliant game. Could probably do with a few less samey side quests imo but overall great gameplay, good story and characters and voice acting. Really enjoyed this one, would deffo recommend it.

Hmmm might be worth me giving it another go then.. I shelved it after 3-4hrs

Easily dismissed if you just play the first few hours, this game gets better and better as you go on. One of my favourites

Yes, one of the PS exclusives that definitely gets overlooked. It had a rough launch, but has been an excellent game for some time now. I actually prefer this over the Last of Us in terms of gameplay. (edited)

One of my favourite games. Don't rush it. Enjoy

Excellent game that was unfairly penalised by reviewers hopping on the bandwagon.

One of the best Sony exclusives ever produced and an absolute steal at this price.

After one playthrough going for platinum, my playtime was north of 70hrs and that was on normal difficulty. Well worth it. (edited)

I got the platinum on this and mostly enjoyed it - it was nice that I got it free on PSN. I didn't think the story was as great as many make out and the whole project felt a little rushed and rough around the ages. Awkward dialogue scenes, some janky mechanics, sudden transitions for story beats, radio transmissions from someone you spoke to like 30 seconds ago etc etc Combat was grand, yet more than occasionally infuriating. Get levelled up *significantly* before tackling a hoard - otherwise, keep your distance or stay quiet!

If there's one thing this project definitely wasn't, it's rushed I was very late to the PS4 scene, but bought one especially for this game in 2017 after it had been delayed multiple times. It then wasn't release until 2019

That said, I loved the game when it did finally drop. One of my fave's on PS4 and definitely worth a playthrough at this price.

Brilliant game, was hoping for a sequel but looks unlikely

There was an article a while back, sequel got pitched but Jim Ryan shut it down. They had plans for co-op and such.

Afterwards Bend studio tried to pitch a Resistance reboot that was also rejected for some reason.

Loved this game but not until a few hours in. I nearly dismissed it but got the platinum trophy by the end 🏻

I found this very repetitive but only gave it a few hours, should I try again?
    oIMyersIo's avatar
Absolutely, the pacing can be hit and miss and at one point I was thinking “how much longer?” but it really hits its stride once you move from the first area.

I loved it, one of my few platinums. It's a slow burn but I enjoyed everything, focus on it, wear headphones and lose yourself in the world!

Lewis Capaldi song at the end is great

Not my type of game normally but I loved this.  Went out of my way to Platinum this

    Same for me!

I played this years back and got bored after 3-4hrs. Might revisit, although not willing to pay this price, £7-9 max, wouldn’t even part with a tenner.

kind of waiting the final version of this game, that includes all the DLC, just like dying light 1.
    oIMyersIo's avatar
There will be no other version, this is it.
anything that was released was done so as free updates including survival mode.

Like others have said, this was an unexpected hit for me. I only started it because it was on the PS+ Collection so I thought I would give it a go seeing as it had a reputation as a marmite game.
After the first 4-5 hours I was hooked on the mechanics, and the fact that these get refreshed as the game goes on only got me more stuck into it.
Of course you do have to accept that the story is pants. But it's a zombie video game, so if you set your expectations accordingly the story is fun for what it is.
PS: play it on PS5 if you can, the frame rate is a stable 60fps. (edited)

Ordered this from Smyths yesterday for the same price. Looking forward to it.

Search " killing the Iron butte horde in 1 shot " on Youtube if you wanna see it.

A very unsony exclusive. The world is beautiful but it's an empty world with empty characters.
The best part is the bike riding. The game engine wouid make a brilliant scrambling game.
Unfortunately I got the digital version so I'm stuck with it. On pc you don't have the luxury of selling your mistakes.

You`ll be avoiding and running from the hordes in the beginning but stick with it. Once you start leveling later in the game you`ll be hunting for them
