You are actually downloading the monthly DLC packs - each contains 10 cars, but provide 1 for free to get more people to download the pack. The benefit is that when you race other people online who are using cars from these DLC packs you will see the proper car, rather than a stock replacement.

If you buy the Season Pass, then the free packs are the ones you should be downloading - they then convert into the full version once you get in game and activate it.

These "free" cars will always be free as it is the only way for Season Pass owners to get the DLC without paying for it twice.

Okay - thanks. I wasn't sure if the DLC could be downloaded, put on a disc then into the console, or via a USB flash drive or something.

It's the same DLC structure as Forza 3, for every pack they'd offer one free car for every DLC pack, along with a free Hyundai pack. You'd best be waiting for a Forza 4 Ultimate Pack which comes with everything, once that goes on sale about, half a year down it's lifespan maybe more.
