The code takes 25% off any battery that I have tried so a decent saving, grabbed a Yuasa 335 that was £152 for £114.

Just enter your car reg and it should suggest a suitable battery, add code at checkout.

Free delivery also if you don't want to collect.

Same code seems to take 50% off service and MOT as well, see comment below,

    Thanks for the code... ("HAL-COL20")
Actually it covers for way more than just batteries.
I've just booked MOTs for my 2 cars (well in advance) with the code and got 50% discount on each booking

What does the full-service cover? Does it make any sense to go for Major service considering we get extra Cabin filter and brake fuild?

Also if we book MOT on Sep 15 and advance it if required? (edited)

@Charger1969 Do you know how long this code is valid?

Not much experience with Halfords - do they take the old battery for recycling? (still, thinking of replacing it myself)
    Charger1969's avatar
    Author
Not sure how long it's valid tbh but take old battery to a recycling place, they give about 10 quid for used batteries, depending on whether the battery needs coding to the car or not fitting is easy if it doesn't need coding
  3. jamgin's avatar
Jeez. Was looking at how you replace car batteries nowadays. You have to register the new battery with the cars computer system...
In my day you just swapped the battery out.
Why does EVERYTHING have to be so complicated
    backyard's avatar
You might need to reset any error codes but as long as you're putting a stop start battery in place of similar you'll be fine.
  4. Waltz's avatar
Does anyone have experience of Halfords own brand vs Bosch, Varta etc? I know most of the branded batteries come from the same plant. They only have an own brand for my car but this voucher makes it a good price.
    shanecr's avatar
All Halfords brand batteries are Yuasa.

Trying to buy a HB053 battery - Ooops, this promotional code is not valid, please check and try again.
  6. moschops1's avatar
Just a reminder the guarantee on all Halfords batteries is only covered if they are tested by Halfords own battery tester and it shows that it has a dead/bad cell
    deanos's avatar
seems reasonable request to check it’s faulty
  7. warmasice's avatar
Do people not check Tanya.co.uk anymore? The Yuasa battery in the deal above is just £124.96 at Tayna
    deanos's avatar
£10 isn’t a great saving if your battery fails, how do you return it to them ? you will have to wait days for them to test it and confirm faulty, at least there are hundreds of halfords you can go into to sort it out straight away

Hot deal. Ordered a Yuasa silver for £68.99, quite a lot cheaper than anywhere else I can find. Cheers OP.

For my cars ebay is cheaper for batteries. The more cold cranking amps the better.
As the blurb says some modern cars a battery change has to be programmed into the computer. The computer changes the charging rate as a battery gets older.
Completely daft in my opinion, as is all the plastic parts they use in new engines designed to go brittle at 100,000 miles. (edited)

Yeah Ebay can be cheap for batteries but mainly for the Lion ones which in my experience with them are not very good, I always go with 3yrs warranty preferably 5, problem with EBay is if it's faulty you have to return it at cost which is a problem.

Last faulty battery I had was from ECP but it came with the car I bought with a receipt and it failed after it was about 3 years old, had a 5yr warranty on it and they swapped it over with the receipt I had even though I wasn't the original purchaser.

Great discount but Halfords is often far from the cheapest to start with (see what I did there?) so do shop around before biting.
  11. mcbain's avatar
I knackered the battery in our other car over lockdown by not starting it regularly enough. Bought a new one from Halford and they asked if I wanted to dispose of old one (I said no thinking I might use it for some home projects..). A few days later I received an email offering me a £10 voucher to take my old battery there. You might get offered more by scrappy but this seems less hassle.

In then end I took it there for the voucher, as I knew that in all likihood I'd never get around to doing anything with the old one! (edited)

Get a cheap solar charger and stick it on the dash. No need to waste fuel and knacker the engine with cold starts.

Wish my battery was that bloody cheap, just had to pay £115 for a Agm (start/stop) one for my car and that was after the discount code, before was something stupid like £220.
    BrAinZ's avatar
Make sure you get you ECU reprogrammed after fitting any Start/Stop battery or you will be needing another one in a few months.

I was literally looking on the Halfords website for a new battery for my BMW F30 3 Series 4 hours ago to see prices and came up at £195 so closed the tab and moved on with my life. This code just came up and the same battery can now be had for £146.99, and I also get an additional 7% off through work making it £136.70. Cheapest on eBay is £145 so this is a bargain! Thanks OP

Was planning on changing battery before the dark winter, so perfect timing for me. Thank you OP!

Also consider you can take it to Halfords if it fails. Buy one from a cheap online seller miles away and it has to go back to them for testing. Look into who foots the bill for that, especially when they tell you it has not been maintained correctly. Plus guarantees are often with the seller, not with the manufacturer.
    tan159's avatar
Correct. I am a seller & half the batteries sent back to the manufacturer understand warranty are sent back to me

Good deal. I've been looking for a new battery for my Defender for about 6 months and haven't seen much below £150 that will ship to Northern Ireland (thanks Northern Ireland protocol!). Just got a Yuasa HSB019 for £106

Halfords are 25% more expensive compared to tayna.co.uk/car…es/?

Bosch/Varta batteries are best anyway. Avoid Exide like the plague.

Seems to work on van batteries too. I'd need an 019 and it's a couple of quid cheaper with the code than using my trade card. The code doesn't work if you've got a trade card and logged in.
    Vinny-Eir's avatar
Bought a 019 AGM just today for €165.99 including fitting , like you have trade code didn’t try it as thought they might be looking funny at me if I asked them to fit it

One hell of a code, I recently bought a battery for 79 and I could have got it for 65 if bought using this code. The code worked. Plus get additional cash back using CS. (edited)

Halfords in most towns, easy returns, good warranty, eBay no cheaper?... 063 batts often an alternative for smaller cars... Check, could've an upgrade for smaller motors.... Oh, winter coming stop being complete cabbages hoping that one morning it just starts so it should be ok once you've got to work... Jumped off More tight arrrs than soft mick

So guys, just to update….it was the Twickenham (London) store that cancelled my order….

So i reordered using the Chiswick store, and that was fine…..i just popped in and collected it now

Went to local Halfords, checked both batteries for my car in stock, one Halfords 335 3yr guarantee the other Yuasa 335 5yr guarantee. Opted for the Yuasa for the 5yr guarantee. Ordered whilst in store via TCB @6% total cost of £114. No other retailers I tried could match it. To note Halfords if u join Halfords motoring club free option they will give u a £5 voucher free too. Too late for my purchase but hey it might help someone.
    GFunk's avatar
I tried this and you can't use the voucher with any other promo. Even went for the paid option to get free battery fitting but can't be used with this code. Cancelled my membership, it's cheaper without!

Last time I got one of these I was overcharged
  33. Vinny-Eir's avatar
On a 019 battery at £195.99 it takes it down to £145.99 which is a good price
I tempted to buy it with fitting in November as i may need a new car battery
(Bmw onboard computer playing tricks giving loads errors apparently dont like the ordinary battery i bought it , AGM one it wants even though the car isnt start stop )
so as least give me time to try find a work around with the non agm one i had bought
  34. Chewkungfu's avatar
    And still making profit.
  35. Matholwch's avatar
Looks like you have no choice but to pay for installation for AGM batteries on stop/start, as they have to programme the car's computer.
    V6ALFISTI's avatar
Yep seems to be £25 for fitting (or at least on my car) which will include programming, however some modern cars don't require programming (Mercedes, but I think Alfa, BMW, VAG do). I suspect a good diagnostic scan tool would do exactly that so you can edit the serial number in the system and register it. Might cost more in the short term but help in the longer term. (edited)

We used Halfords remote fitting service and 3 guys arrived with completely the wrong size battery (I ordered the correct size and it was even their own brand). They said nothing though and still tried to fit it, breaking the plastic piece that covers the car’s battery terminal wiring in the process, before telling us it wouldn’t fit!

They came back late in the day with a replacement, but unfortunately we only noticed the damage caused by them the following week when topping up the windscreen wash. You really don’t expect to have to check if so called professionals have correctly fitted something as basic to them as a battery.

I went this morning to get my new battery fitted, a Yuasa silver 5 year guarantee one. They had parts laid out on the floor in groups, obviously today's booked work. There was a battery, which was a brand I didn't even recognise.

So in passing I said, it is the Yuasa you are fitting today, right? He says "or an equivalent one. We can't get that one for a few days".

Thought i was getting a good deal, paying Yuasa - 25% prices but in actual fact its fraud as they fit no name "equivalent".

In my car, the battery is totally hidden too. So I would not have known that I had been cheated. (edited)

I'd be thankful you didn't get asked for your colleague discount card.

Doesn't appear to be working now as it looks to have been replaced with a 20% discount which is automatically applied before checkout so won't accept this code as well.
