KID A MNESIA is a fevered dream-space, an edifice, built from the art & creatures, words & recordings of Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac uncovered from 20 odd years ago, reassembled and given new mutant life.

Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke’s twisted anxious artwork and writing made to accompany the music of Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac is uncovered and brought back to life, in a building hidden in a forest made in pencil, stretching the idea of what an exhibition is to breaking point.. or into something else entirely.

The original multitrack recordings of Kid A and Amnesiac are scattered and reformed in a series of impossible or possible spaces populated by equally impossible or possible creatures, surrounded by the art of Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke, created as the millenium loomed.

Admittedly, I've missed the last couple after that.Perhaps I should go back and listen to their 90's albums in full again to familiarise myself. I too favour sole talent produced in a studio with instruments and vocals doing the majority of the work, but nothing wrong with a good old loop pedal?!

I get it that bands evolve and their sounds change, but Radiohead just moved into an entirelt different genre. Guitar-based indie rock into experimental... Erm, I don't really know what. Loop pedals are fine, it just depends what you are putting through them

Had no expectations on what this would entail and I thoroughly enjoyed it, highly recommend using a decent set of headphones or cinema setup to experience this.

Radiohead continuing to push the envelope and this is why they're one of my favourite bands.

Oh, Radiohead, whatever happened to you?

Pablo Honey, good, The Bends, great, OK Computer, great, but the artsy-disappearing-up-their-own-bums signs were there... And then KId A, they've gone right up there.

I'd love to sit them down in a studio with actual instruments and no wierd loops and effects and demand they write a "proper" album for those who remember them in the 90's. Don't suppose that's an option?!

Just a friendly reminder that KID A was 20 years ago. Perhaps it's time to move on with your life? I feel your comment would have sounded dated 10 years ago, never mind 20.

They did write a 'proper' album for you, it's called In Rainbows; and it's great.

There's not even a reason to separate the band up into eras, imho. My favourite album is Kid A followed by The Bends*. This demo/app/game is right up my street. For obvious reasons it leans visually as well as musically into the Kid A sessions.

It's not just trippy visuals, it breaks up the tracks into separate stems/isolated parts that get played in. As an amateur musician and someone who likes listening to the demos on bonus discs etc to get a glimpse into the writing/recording process I thought this really added to the experience.

With that said, even if you have no familiarity with the band, some may get a cool experience from it's weird museum like presentation. So worth a try if anyone is at least curious.

There's two terrible traits of internet Radiohead fans imo. *The insistence of turning every written conversation into a ranking list of every album in order of preference and people like yourself proudly announcing you didn't much care for their output post the turn of the millennium. Radiohead grew up and decided to move on, you can too!

"In Rainbows" is a "proper album"? I don't agree, but then according to you I'm not really allowed an opinion, I should somehow learn to like their post millenium stuff.

There are tons of other bands that changed their style over the years, and I've stopped listening to that newer stuff because of it. But none, in my opinion have changed as drastically as what Radiohead have, that's all I am saying. You don't have to agree, that's fine. Neither of us are right or wrong, we just have different tastes and opinions.

But clearly as an "amateur musician" you must know more than me. Does it help that I was in a band in the late 80's/early 90's? Probably not. What the hell is an internet Radiohead fan anyway? Someone who likes Radiohead and has access to the Internet? What a weird label.

Your not the type that always has to have the last word, I assume? I might be wrong.

Guilty as charged on the essay bit but I did bold the essentials so you didn't have to labour through it. If you'd bothered to though you might realise that I'm not trying to say my opinions right, yours isn't; more so that your personal opinion doesn't add anything to the discussion in this instance, other than to serve as an off-topic jumping off point. Same as if I jumped into a deal about Pablo Honey and said it was an uninspired MotR album and you'd be better off with their later work. It's a personal opinion that many will disagree with. Thing is, if PH appears on here as a deal at , lets say, 2.99 for a deluxe edition CD I'm voting it hot because it's a deal imho, despite my personal appraisal of it. I gain nothing but entering that thread and announcing how low it appears in my personal rankings and nobody else benefits by my sounding off on it.

And that's the thing... You've not even commented on the actual deal once. At least make the smallest of efforts to cover up the fact you're drive by posting; because you've held a 20 year grudge against a band you kinda liked in the mid-90's, by offering an opinion on the actual app

The future is now old man etc etc.

Alright Nigel! No one's taking away your freedoms and trampling over your dreams/opinions. You're going off on one like a Gammon shouting at his telly when Points of View is on because they don't play the National Anthem at the beginning of Strictly. You're more than entitled to think Kid A was utter dross. I wasn't a fan on my first several listens. Never has an album grown on me so much when I've actually gave it a listen and a fair shake. It went on to become one of my favourite albums, ful stop. YMMV. You know what they say about opinions..... they're like copies of Pablo Honey....everyone's got one but no one seems to like 'em.

This is a deals site though, not a music discussion board.

What I do find odd is that rather than it being a case of you just wanting to be helpful and offering some insight for everyone else on how good (or not) of a deal this is you saw Radiohead in the title and thought. 'brill, here's my soapbox to moan about how I reckon the band disappeared completely up it's own posterior'.

Thing is, whether we agree with each other matters not a jot. It has no bearing on how good this deal is so either one of us announcing how pleased we are with the bands output only serves to fill the dead air space.

I love this era of Radiohead, so I'm biased; but I still managed to offer insight as to why this might be a good 'deal' for someone to check out while appreciating it's not going to be for everyone. You didn't.

I mean it's not even that hard for to have you cake and eat it. Here:

"As someone who really disliked the direction the band took during this era I won't be wasting my time with this. I imagine others will love this though as it mixes samples of the tracks from the albums with the distinct art style of Stanley Donwood (which I'm also not a fan of). It's free so nothing to lose, it's just not for me."

I'm not treating your opinion as worthless on it's own merit. Again, feel free to like/dislike anything you want. Your opinion becomes worthless in this context though as it adds absolutely nothing to the conversation, which is 'is this a 'deal'?.

If you really need to let off steam there's got to be hundreds of music forums, Discords and social media sites you can shout into the void with. No need to be stuck in limbo, here. I've said recently to those who burst into deals on games randomly trying to justify why we need to be happy paying 70 instead of 25 for a game because Sonic was 30 in '92....you'll get more positive reinforcement spouting that elsewhere. No one cares what you personally think a game should cost. No one cares that you're disappointed with Radiohead's musical direction.

To clear the rest of your confusion. An internet Radiohead fan is, as it says on the tin, a Radiohead fan that posts on the 'net. If it was a weird cult that meets on a Friday in a secret Discord then I would of capitalised the I in internet to address them by their formal name.

I'd consider In Rainbows a 'proper' album. Call me optimistic, but I consider them all proper though, tbf. I only used quote marks because I felt that it was the best example of a 'proper' album post-kid A due to your definition of 'proper' being the lack of loop pedals. I mean it wasn't like they hadn't used pedals on The Bends and I'm sure Ed already was using his custom sustainer guitar on OKC. The stuff I used to play was covers of a lot of 60s stuff so I could get away with mostly just plugging straight through an amp and only using onboard effects. I'd imagine you'd be hard pressed to play 80's/90's stuff with zero pedals and it sound authentic, imho.

And I appreciate that making the clarification that I played in a band is considered a humble brag, but it was just to add context of why I thought being able to experience the tracks from the album as say, an isolated guitar riff, added extra value for me as someone how likes to learn these tracks to noodle away to at home. AFAIK Radiohead did release some stems many moons ago on itunes or somewhere but generally fans don't get to experience isolated parts of the finished tracks like this. Whether you like the tracks it does offer a chance of a new perspective when everything's broken down like that instead of being in it's right place.

    Love,
