Yes there are cheaper cards available and yes NVIDIA and AMD are announcing new cards before the end of the month. I was looking for an NVIDIA card ideally with at least 12gb and MSI and the price dropped today below £600 so it's a good deal to me.
The MSI Ventus 4070 card has known cooling issues or I would have considered it.

Funny how 9 months ago a £750 10gb 3080 got plenty of heat yet this card that outperforms it whilst running silent and cool on far less power is just about avoiding going cool.

The AMD shills on Youtube have done a great job this generation with the VRAM nonsense

It would be deemed great if the replacement of the now 961 day old (2.65 years) card that released at £649 had been superseded by an improved model at an either much lower cost, or with much better performance. Instead you have a card at a slightly lower cost with similar performance, so basically nothing has changed in nearly 3 years, that is what I call progress!

Big fan of MSI cards in general but cannot vote this hot as £600 for a 12GB VRAM card with this performance in 2023 just doesn't represent a good deal.

Nvidia has completely screwed this generation up, starting with the 4080 12GB un-launch, poor poor pricing and things not improving from there really. (edited)

Given you can still get the reference 4070 for £589 it's cold for me. Nvidia need to drop the price of the reference card by at least £100 so the AIB manufacturers can sell at a competitive price

    Good deal OP.
Dont let the complainers put you off, the 4070 is fine value, especially if what you play supports frame gen.
    It works great.

It's a 4060 in all but name, nowhere near worth £500 let alone £600

Even the retail outlet that most pushes hot-rod gaming PCs told their customers in their OFFICIAL forums to only buy the very cheapest 4070s they sell.

The 4070 is energy efficient- expensive AIB versions are NOT allowed to overclock to any degree by Ngreedia- or to over-volt. In other words every 4070 is the same safe reliable low power ref version.

In other words, this GPU is double lousy value- lousy for being a mediocre 12GB GPU that is weak against lower priced AMD alternatives- and lousy for costing more than other 4070s.

Notice the shills telling you you need to spend SIX HUNDRED quid on a GPU, and then fake frames like one of those cheapo TV sets with a 'soap opera' mode, and then render at a much lower resolution with ghosting artifacts ruining your image, all so you can boast that you use Ngreedia's putrid image destroying DLSS 'tech'.

This is only a good deal if you need a card. Sorry but GPU pricing is still way to bloated a
70 series card should not be £599

Better get Gainward/Palit models for £560.
Good enough cooling, smaller size, and 8pin connector.
RTX 4070 only make sense if you can get it cheap. (edited)

Still happy with my GTX1660 super, it's a solid 1080/1440p card. I'm not the most hardcore gamer so it'll be a long while before I upgrade from that.

For older games (and a lot of excellent Steam indy titles), older GPUs are great. However, the future looks bleak as Unreal 5 is adopted by everyone, including the indy crowd. Unreal 5 is just too cheap and well supported a dev platform - and it is in bed with 'big' GPU. In other words new games of all types are about to demand much newer GPUs with a lot more clout- even at 1080P.
