New guts. More glory.

The Apple M1 chip takes our most versatile, do-it-all desktop into another dimension. With up to 3x faster CPU performance. Up to 6x faster graphics. And our most advanced Neural Engine for up to 15x faster machine learning. Get ready to work, play, and create on Mac mini with speed and power beyond anything you ever imagined.

M1 Small chip. Giant leap.
It’s here. Our first chip designed specifically for Mac. Packed with an astonishing 16 billion transistors, the Apple M1 system on a chip (SoC) integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O and so much more onto a single tiny chip. With incredible performance, custom technologies and industry-leading power efficiency,2 M1 is not just a next step for Mac — it’s another level entirely.

Universal apps.
Every app that comes with Mac, and every app made by Apple, is optimised for M1. Apps like Pages, Keynote, GarageBand and iMovie show how amazing performance can be with M1. Run up to 3x more instrument and effect plug‑ins with Logic Pro.3 Fly through tasks with Final Cut Pro, like rendering a complex timeline up to 6x faster.4 Incredibly fast and more capable than ever, native apps are the most powerful apps for M1. And the new Universal platform means these apps support both Intel‑based and Apple silicon–based Mac systems. Many developers are already delivering new apps with game‑changing performance and capabilities. Like colour‑correcting 6K video — in real time — with Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve.

Speed and responsiveness.
The M1 chip and macOS Big Sur work together to make the entire system snappier. Mac mini wakes almost instantly from sleep. Everyday things like flipping through photos and browsing Safari are faster. And your hardest-working apps all have access to the power they need.

Towering performance.
Minus the tower. The integration of technologies on the M1 chip allows Mac mini to blow away computers many times its size — taking on intensive tasks while consuming up to 60 per cent less energy than the previous generation.5

Incredible chip in. Unbelievable graphics out.
The 8-core GPU in the M1 chip is the most advanced graphics processor we’ve ever built, full stop. And it brings the world’s fastest integrated graphics in a personal computer to Mac mini,6 with a gigantic 6x increase in graphics performance. That’s an insane amount of power — all in an incredibly compact enclosure.

An entire system. On a single chip.
Until now, a Mac needed multiple chips to deliver all of its features — including the processor, I/O, security and memory. With M1, these technologies are combined into a single system on a chip (SoC), delivering a new level of integration for more simplicity, more efficiency and amazing performance. And with incredibly small transistors measured at an atomic scale, M1 is remarkably complex — packing the largest number of transistors we’ve ever put into a single chip. It’s also the first personal computer chip built using industry‑leading 5‑nanometre process technology.

Unified memory. Shared across the entire system.
M1 also features our unified memory architecture, or UMA. M1 unifies its high‑bandwidth, low‑latency memory into a single pool within a custom package. As a result, all of the technologies in the SoC can access the same data without copying it between multiple pools of memory. This dramatically improves performance and power efficiency. Video apps are snappier. Games are richer and more detailed. Image processing is lightning fast. And your entire system is more responsive.

Four high‑efficiency cores.
M1 has four efficiency cores to handle lighter workloads. They use a tenth of the power while still delivering outstanding performance. These e‑cores are the most efficient place to run lightweight tasks, allowing the performance cores to be used for your most demanding workflows.

16-core Neural Engine.
It’s the brains of the operation.Machine learning (ML) brings task-smashing speed and automation to video analysis, voice recognition, image processing and more. And the M1 chip brings a 16-core Neural Engine and full stack of ML technologies, transforming Mac mini into an ML powerhouse.

Versatility. Fits in. Rocks out.
With its compact size, incredible performance and wide array of ports, Mac mini is perfect for a surprising range of uses. And with the powerful M1 chip unleashed within its 19.7-cm-square frame, you never know where you’ll find a Mac mini hard at work.

Doesn't seem that good when we've seen m2 minis around the same price before

Why bother? You can get the M2 for a little more if you shop around. The SSD isn't that slow, still way faster than any HDD. BTW... I'm typing right now using my Mini M2 Pro (512/16) and it's incredible.

512GB storage M2 has 2 x 256GB. The issue is with the 256GB storage M2 because it is 1 x 256 instead of 2 x 128GB as it is with the M1 model. Therefore you need 512GB and above to realise the full bandwidth with an M2.

Does any wizard know would this work with a thunderbolt 27” Apple screen (from 2015 I think)

It does with the official Apple thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter. Everything works actually as it did with the old macs so it's a great combination.
