I have 2x RLC-810a and 1x RLC-811a cameras connected to a PoE switch. Because cameras provide you with RTSP stream and are Onvif compliant you don’t need to stick with Reolink system.
I have the PoE switch connected to a little NUC processor which stores video locally and shares reduced quality stream with AppleHomeKit via Scrypted running locally on the NUC. This was I have quick access to camera live streams via HKVS (native Apple smarthome app) and 24/7 recording stored locally in 4K. I don’t think you can beat Reolink cameras with anything in this price bracket.
One thing to note, don’t use CCA cable and use pure copper cable. CCA is half the price, but it’s not suitable for PoE and can cause fires. I did this mistake and will need to replace the cable at some point.

Worth noting, the NVR can record in 4K (using Reolinks 8MP cameras), however the included cameras are not the 4K ones.

I've got the 8MP cameras with this NVR and it's great. Their new Wi-Fi doorbell is great too!

Is it possible to purchase the cameras only and instead of an NVR to record onto MicroSD cards or Cloud instead?

    Fantastic bit of kit.

Replaced the NVR with the 36 channel model so I could have more storage space.

Got 7 cameras in total, including a new door bell. Wanted to get rid of ring subscription and poor service.

No faults with the system, as said night time coverage could be better, but for the price, no complaints.

I use CAT6 cable as I have drums of it, but CAT 5e will be fine. Just avoid the CCA stuff.

POe Switches wise I use eBay Negear pro safe ones, typically around £20-99 depending on the number of ports you want.

    Never failed me so far.

Lastly, you can sometimes get the same kit for the same price directly on their website, they support PayPal too if that helps. (edited)

Interesting about the doorbell as we have a Ring one too (with sub) and on the verge of buying more. I was thinking may need to buy a wired system as an addition for better video higher up.
Two systems mean a bit more complexity.
Really wish the 8mp deal cameras looked smart ilike in this deal. They stick out so much and will stand out like a sore thumb but want best quality for buck.

Does this suffer from poor night quality?

Spend time thoroughly looking into the companies security reputation before purchasing (excuse the pun ). I say ‘thorough’ as you have to weed through the paid recommendation blogs and articles to find info. I gave them a wide berth as a result. I totally appreciate with wireless technology there are always security concerns but some companies have them more than others

I don't believe Reolink is one those that have a weak security system - At least not that I'm aware of. The fact that these are wired cameras, also reduces the risks of wireless technology being hacked.

I'm in a bit of a dilemma though. On one hand I want wired cameras, but due to my home only recently having been fully renovated and decorated, I'm finding it difficult to find a convenient route for the wires to be fed through, otherwise this system would be perfect for me.

This system looks like a good upgrade to my sannce system. Does anyone know if a mains ethernet extender with a poe injector would work? I need a camera where cable run an issue.

I have the 8MP camera version of this Reolink with NVR and it is great, just added the door bell camera last week. The AI recognition for people, cars pets etc is great and helps filter out the countles triggers you get if only using movement as a trigger.

All ethernet PoE wired (NVR is in the attic and connect remotely on my LAN). Nothing is stored on the cloud and is all only accessible on my LAN or by Port forwarding.

I avoided Ring etc as the data is on servers god knows where and viewable by god knows who. (edited)

How are you having the port forwarding? I'm not an expert but that's seems the security concern if not using proper kit and controls

For anyone looking to buy a ‘package’, just be aware that there’s downsides to buying a package deal like this instead of buying separate items. E.g. software updates and that the cameras will be ‘linked’ to the associated NVR that is part of the package, meaning that you can’t swap NVRs. (edited)

Eh? That's not how they used to work, so when did this happen?

I don't think much of Reolink tbh. In the past they got Amazon to remove my 1-star review on their untested E1 Outdoor camera that was fake waterproof. I tried to get Amazon to reinstate the review but they refused to do it each time. Reolink got some power over at Amazon clearly! (edited)

I bought a reolink 4k NVR last year with 4mp cameras. Great daytime quality but nightime is a bit naff. 2tb records 2 weeks on 24/7 recording. I did look at 5mp but there weren't any deals at the time. Their app works great and their customer service has been excellent when I had a recent problem. Going to change some of my cams to 8mp now the prices are coming down.

Do none of the reolink range have nighttime colour? That was a game changer with Hikvision

What’s the easiest way to view a system like this from e.g a bedroom tv?

Is it easy enough to watch from a monitor/tv not connected to the NVR if you want to live view whilst not being at the monitor/NVR station?

Probably the app, Web interface or the windows app.

How does Realink compare to Hikvision as in quality and ease of use (good app, multiple users, customer service etc)?
