Update 5
500GB fruther reduced to £23.99
Upgrade to breathtaking NVMe speed
It's time to maximize your PC's potential with the 980. Whether you need a boost for gaming or a seamless workflow for heavy graphics, the 980 is the smart choice for outstanding SSD performance, and it's all backed by an NVMe1 interface and PCIe 3.0 technology.
Packed with Speed
The 980 solid state drive harnesses nearly all the speed advantages of PCIe 3.0 through HMB technology and dramatic NVMe efficiency. The DRAM-less design delivers exceptional value, achieving breakneck sequential read/write speeds up to 3,500/3,000 MB/s²³, over 6.2x the speed of SATA SSDs⁴
Maximum Performance with full power mode
Keep your internal SSD running at peak level for nonstop, consistent high performance with Full Power Mode. Switch it on through Samsung Magician software to always keep your SSD in active mode. Instantly jump right back to intensive work with huge files, graphic-heavy games, or even normal PC usage
Built to last
With up to 600 TBW⁵ and other features⁶, the 980 SSD comes with proven reliability.
Smart thermal solution
Embedded with Samsung's cutting-edge thermal control algorithm, the 980 SSD manages heat on its own to deliver durable and reliable performance. To minimise performance fluctuations in the long haul, Samsung's Dynamic Thermal Guard technology maintains the 980's temperature at optimal levels.
Reliable thermal control
High-performance SSDs usually require high-performance thermal control. To ensure stable performance, the 980 uses nickel coating to help manage the controller's heat level and a heat spreader label to deliver effective thermal control of the NAND chip.

² Performance may vary depending on the SSD’s firmware version, system and hardware configuration. Performance measurements are based on IOmeter 1.1.0. The write performances were measured with Intelligent TurboWrite technology activated. The sequential write performances after Intelligent TurboWrite region are: up to 250 MB/s(250GB), 500 MB/s(500GB) and 900 MB/s(1TB).
³ Test system configuration: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz,DDR4 2133MHz 8GBx2 OS-Windows 10 Pro 64bit Asrock Z-170 Extreme7+
⁴ Results are based on a comparison with Samsung SATA SSDs.
⁵ TBW : Terabytes written
⁶ 5 years or TBW, whichever comes first. For more information on the 5 year safety, please find the enclosed statement in the package.

sorted byIt's a DRAM-less TLC NAND drive, nothing special.
Same price as the WD SN570 which is a similar drive -
amazon.co.uk/WD_…-16
I'd still go with the cheaper Kioxia with DRAM over this (especially if using as an OS/apps drive) -
amazon.co.uk/Kio…-11
If you really need the higher sequential speeds, this DRAM-less Lexar is cheaper than the 980 and the SN570 -
amazon.co.uk/Lex…-19 (edited)
For everything else, not much difference between them.
I'd check your user manual and BIOS to confirm.
Runs pretty cool too so I'd say it's a nice choice for an external enclosure. (edited)
amazon.co.uk/fan…8-6
If you want to stick with a more well known name, there's this Lexar gen3 -
amazon.co.uk/Lex…-16
If you want gen4 (though it isn't the fastest gen4 in the world) -
amazon.co.uk/Int…-21
Unless of course this has become another drive that manufacturers are changing the NAND flash on under the table.
The Kioxia would be the quickest out of the ones mentioned above for the OS and it's less that this 980 too.
Also keep in mind this ssd runs hot (edited)
All thoughts and advice appreciated!🙏🏼
TIA 🏼
Edit: 500GB model dropped to £24.99 (edited)
Did you go into the windows Disk Management settings?
Am not sure what to do
Thankfully, I had a spare socket for a second NVMIe drive, so I didn't have to do this.
Did you clone by using Macrium?
Maybe is prowling around and can advise? (edited)
