I was looking for a reasonably fast 64gb flash drive when I came across this refurbished model from MyMemory.
1 year warranty and MyMemory have been great over the years with me ordering countless SD cards (former wedding photographer), so I know their customer service is good.
Whilst i don't expect to see the advertised 150MB/s read speed, it appears to be a great drive for almost 1/2 of the 'normal' price. Apparently the RRP is £80 but I suspect that is only if you have a delorian....

sorted byWell, tested the one I bought and it gets no hotter than any other metal clad usb. And can be touched and removed from PC/Latop/whatever by the metal and held without having being to bothered by the mild warmth after hours. But thats mine - maybe another'd be different
I'd also be concerned about buying a refurbished flash drive as they only have a limited number of writes they can take.
I hear what you say but I don’t think there is a real issue with the number of ‘writes’ when you are talking about a drive without moving parts.
Yes in the traditional platter mounted HDD days I would be a little concerned about a refurbished product, had the drive been damaged etc but i have Sandisk flash drives I have used for 15 years without issue. I tend not to use them now due to the speed of the tech but they still work.
If I was using a drive for professional purposes I may be more wary, but if it was for professional purposes I’d be looking to spend professional kit money and not £9.98. When I was a wedding photographer I regularly spent more than £100 on an SD card as it was for professional use. I would also use two for built in redundancy in my camera. No one wants to lose a couples wedding photos.
This isn’t for professional use in my opinion, for moving some files between home computers I think it’s worth a punt, and you know what if it miraculously fails to write in the warrant period I’ll send it back and buy you a pint with the proceeds
Many of the metal cases Sandisk drives run hot these days. I’ve a combination USBC-USBA that gets toasty in use.
I assume the plastic ones get hot, but the plastics better at insulation and keeps thd heat inside, which may actually be worse for the drive…
Haven't ran any speed tests, but happy with the performance of a 64GB bought around 2 years ago and 128GBbought just under a year.
They were new and not refursbished (edited)
They may have been testing that on USB 2.0 if they only got 40MB/s read, as I have tested a number of drives and that's the max that I get at on read speeds. Change to USB 3.0 and they'd see a massive difference in read speeds. Still writes are slow and USB 3.0 won't make too much difference to that.
