Bought one of these years ago and found them to be painfully slow.

The fact it advertises read speeds "up to" 130 MB/s but doesn't give a transfer rate for write speeds and instead states "15 x faster than standard USB 2.0 drives". What the hell is a "standard" USB 2.0 drive?

Suffice to say, at 512GB, the slow write speeds will get annoying very quickly.

I am not a fan of these at this capacity - they had a habit of getting extremely hot and burning out (possibly fixed in later versions) and if you need mass, fast and reliable storage, a portable SSD in an enclosure is better.

Read a few recent user reviews on Amazon and other places, apparently write is around 70MB/s but can tail off, random write is quite poor at around 6MB/s. Also it still gets extremely hot to the point where it causes concern.

I'm tempted to get one of these for my laptop. It has a 512gb micro sd card, but the slot for it is only usb 2.0 speed.

If you're leaving it attached, I think a quality microSD would be better and more reliable than this drive. That Samsung Evo Plus 512GB for £25 (or so) is the one I'd get.
