Just bought the 559's and a pair of 300's for gifts for others.
At this rate everyone I know will be gettingn headphones for Christmas, lol. (edited)
1) They're indistinguishable from brand new. I'm not even convinced that they were an actual refurb (sort of like how Dyson sell "refurbs" through their ebay outlet).
2) The 6.5mm jack CANNOT be screwed off. It's a molded fitting. You'll need an adaptor for 3.5mm. They're frquently out of stock with Sennheiser themselves, so I bought mine from these chaps (genuine part, great service) - ebay.co.uk/itm…AAA
3) It ships from Germany via DHL. Full tracking and fast service.
4) I'm not an audiophile, but I do appreciate good audio. I bought these to replace my old DJ HD205s, a good set of regular non-audiophile headphones that lasted me years. I don't like the sound of the HD559s as much. They're somewhat muddy and the open-back nature completely changes the sound from what I've been used to for years. Not bad, but VERY different. I'm happy with them, but they are taking some getting used to and I doubt I'll stick with them for as long as I did my old HD205s.
5) I tested them against a new pair of Urbanites. I prefered the sound of the Urbanites (I put that down to preferring a closed-back sound), but the HD559s had much more detail, so I'm going to stick with the HD559s.
5) Open-back means anyone around you will hear what you're listening to.
Overall the HD559s are a bargain at this price and well worth a purchase, but those who aren't used to open-back should anticipate an adjustment period. I'll be using them for the forseeable until the closed-back HD569s pop up for a good price.
They are what they are though - open back, wired, over the ear. And if you need that then great, also they are super comfy, good sound quality (not amazing but pretty good and certainly very good for the price). Easy to drive too.

This is a great price for those cans if they're your cup of tea.
All of the ones of this design are seriously comfortable to wear for long periods, best I've ever worn. (edited)
