I grow aroids and there's an even cheaper way to make these. Just buy a non heated propogator (obvs) and a heat mat for lizards off of Amazon or eBay for £6-£7. Seal it with electrical tape on the base and you have a heated propogator for about £12 all in. The added bonus of using a heat mat is that you can control the heat using the thermostat dial.

I wonder if this would be suitable for giant African land snails, who need the warmth?

Edit: anyone know how hot they get? Doesn't seem to say.. (edited)

I have two of these. I don't know exactly the temperature inside but touching the base when on it doesn't even really feel warm. They seem to produce a tiny tiny amount of heat but if your only opening it once a day at most (for plants) I think that extra degree or so compounds in the plastic cloche top. Most of the heat seems to come from it being a mini greenhouse, catching the heat during the day and just keeping it that extra degree or two warmer at night.

To put the heat output in perspective, I have one of these inside an actual greenhouse and in the very coldest days of the year I've still had some frost damage/dead seedlings.

They are very good for the money though. They aren't intended to be particularly hot. If you want something that has actual temperature controls and does get warm then the Vitopod is the gold standard but can easily cost 10x this. (edited)

Not warm enough to make any noticeable difference to your feet.
