I bought & owned this TV for 2 months but returned it due to TCL's misleading info regarding hdmi 2.1 & 4k120 in Europe.

It's a very, very good TV.

    Picture quality is great!
    It's hella bright in HDR!

It has phenomenal sound. That integrated Onkyo Dolby Atmos soundbar makes the TV just incredible value!

I bought the TV for £869 at the time as I believed it to be a genuine next gen capable tv thanks to TCL burying the UK specs. I had to do serious digging & eventually got my man Vincent Teoh from HDTV Test to grill the TCL Europe boss during an interview before we finally got confirmation of the UK variant not having HDMI 2.1 for top end gaming features. So with my PS5 not being able to get 4k120 I decided I couldn't bring myself to keep it.

If you don't play video games, however, £506 is just INSANE value.

I ended up buying an LG C1 and also a rather expensive LG Atmos Soundbar which was pathetic compared to the Onkyo one on the TCL. I returned the soundbar after 3 months. I miss that surprisingly great virtual surround sound from the TCL.

The UK got shafted by TCL. EU got hdmi 2.1 support. UK version does not. Seems a good price for what you get though so I have given heat on that basis.

OK, so after some research these are my findings:

This is 100hz / 120hz. 100hz is the term for UK / EU market due to 50hz mains operating frequency. 60/120 is US. Screen supports both i.e 100Hz & 120hz despite reference to only 100Hz. That said, this is the UK version (Prob the reason for the 826 reference and not 825?) This version does not support 120Hz @ 4K due to not having HDMI 2.1. That said it will support 120Hz at various lower resolutions. This will only be an issue on the latest gen gaming with the latest games and i understand not all are designed for 120Hz@4K.

Still seems to be stuck on Android 9 which reviews appear to be not great. Not an issue if you plan to use an external smart system, Sky Q, Roku, Firestick, Apple TV box etc.

Otherwise seems to be a very bright screen, with better than standard LED lighting tech, with a fairly decent built in sound bar.

    Amazon image indicates HDMI 2.1?

Yes the UK didn't get that though but the rest if the EU did. The rest of the EU also gets a better chip upgradable to Google TV.

I bought this at 513, amazon pricing yo-yoing. Avforums is best to read about this as its different in UK, rtings is US. Still it has the great picture for my use which is general tv, movies, streaming. I wanted oled but I have a room with 4 windows so I choose for at this price point I think u won't get better, brightness is max 1000nits. The os is a concern as its reported to be slow and an update is still waiting but I tend to use firestick more so I'm hoping I'm not too put out

out of interest is the lack of 120hz that big of a deal? i have a series X and still trying to get a PS5, but to my knowledge basically no games run at 120hz and it looks realistically we won't see 4k 120fps games on this gen anyway.

I've been considering upgrading my Samsung LED for a while as i think the deeper blacks on qled/oled are the real next gen upgrade image quality wise. I don't have a ton of money to spend on a tv, but these seems good quality apart from android 9 and lack of hdmi 2.1, i more wondered about the variable refresh rate support of 2.1 but don't know enough about it.

Are games pretty bad to play on this tv from the consoles?

    Thanks

I don't think the reviews on Amazon are directly for this TV model. Some date back to 2018? This is a 2021 model TV!!!
    Amazon are terrible for this.

I went to the site below for reviews and this appears to be a LOT of specs for the money:

Maybe I was unlucky with my set but, I took mine back to Costco after 2 weeks because motion blur watching fast moving scenes such as movies or sport was very bad. There has been no update for the UK C826 since 2020 and it has Android 9, whereas the Euro C825 has android 11 and updates. Also, TCL UK website has every tv bar the C826. It has info about the European model C825 and links to retailers ao, Hughes, Spatial etc, which make you think the model you are getting is C825 which none of them are. All in all, it is very confusing advertising for UK customers, looking for info about the UK C826.

That’s what I’m think too, I too have a ps5 but the type of games I play are fifa, Elden ring, skyrim, horizon forbidden west etc., far from anything FPS so struggling to see how 120hz would be beneficial

If this was being evaluated on it's original price of £850ish, then I would say all the concerns mentioned might be valid.

But, for £500, I can't see how you can go wrong?

Worst case it goes back to Amazon.

I honestly don't think it matters.

Lack of VRR might become a pain if you are sensitive to frame drops. But until Sony actually unlock VRR (which they've been saying "soon" for 18 months now) it's a moot point. Although I am envious of Xbox owners having VRR since day 1.

Agree with the 120hz sentiment though.

I expected more games to offer 1440/120 but that's clearly not happening. The one game I do play regularly that now runs in 120fps, Rocket League, does not discernably play that different.

30-60fps is a much more noticeably difference than 60-120fps.

Honestly since 98% of games seem to top out at 60fps, this still makes a cracking TV, seeing as it's now <£500!!!

This is legitimately a good deal despite being not as good as the US specification. TCL sometimes gets a bad rap because expectations are so high but for most users they’re just fine. This is a decent TV.

Yup, the EU model is the 825 with HDMI 2.1. But for the majority of folks, this won't make much of a difference unless really into gaming.

Just pulled the trigger on this, this is a great price for this tv. I have looked at alot of tvs and this is the best bang for buck at this price. i will be using my xbox series x on this tv, 4k 120 was on my list but most games are 60 fps anyway, elden ring cant even run at the full 60 fps all the time. For most games to hit that magic 60 fps they use alot of dynamic resolution, god knows how much quality you loose at 4k 120. I just want a good 4k image with full local dimming, Wide colour gamut, and 1000 nit peak brightness for hdr, this tv ticks all boxes and also has great sound to. Delivery is on thursday for me if anybody wants to know how quick you can get it.
