Description
The collected surviving episodes of the classic British sitcom starring Rodney Bewes and James Bolam as working class northern lads Bob and Terry. While Bob is trying to better his life, Terry is content to live it to the full, pursuing the ladies and supporting the local team. The set includes all eight surviving episodes from the 1960s series 'The Likely Lads', plus the 26 episodes from the two series of 'Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads' from 1973/4 and the 1974 Christmas special.

It's on every night about 8/9pm on "That's TV" channel number 65 freeview if you want to watch it for free.

Classic, especially reminiscent for those of us old enough to know that part of the World, especially from the 1970’s series.

I wasn't born in the 70's but I still love this show, I feel like I really missed out on the 70's when I watch it

A show where the follow up series 'whatever...' is often regarded as better than the original series.

Love hearing how many pence the barmaid asks for whenever Bob buys two pints in the pub.

Absolutely classic these two series, I have had both sets for years now. Which reminds me, they deserve to be watched yet again, maybe tonight

I can't put my finger on why exactly, but I never took to the original series.

The sequel Whatever happened.... was much funnier with a few really classic episodes. My favourite episode is No Hiding Place where Bob and Terry spend the day trying to avoid finding out the result of an England football match before it is shown on TV in the evening.

Bob, ‘In the chocolate box of life the top layer’s already gone and someone’s pinched the orange crème from the bottom’

    Terry, ‘bloody hell’ (edited)

Classic script writing, and hilarious lines

    Bob:
These streets are ugly, but they have a kind of beauty.

    Terry:
Working class sentiment is the indulgence of working people created through football and rock-and-roll or people like you who moved out to the elm lodge housing estate at the earliest opportunity.

    Bob:
Well I didn't want my kids growing up in these streets. (edited)

Great series. Always find it funny that there were no actors from Newcastle in the show! A lot of the supporting cast seemed to have Yorkshire accents

James Bolam is from Sunderland area I think.......?

Thanks OP. I don't like it enough to want to see it again but their series was a classic of its time. As with What ever happened to the likely lads, for years this show was not repeated on TV because of a feud James said no, when Rodney wanted it to.

I watched Whatever happened to the Likely Lads as it was written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais who went on to write Porridge, going Straight and Auf Wiedershen Pet amongst many other things and wasn't disappointed.
