Does this instantly draw more electricity or only pull what's required?
My current PSU is 350W (it's all I need), but say I wanted to future proof and bought this, would that be a bad idea for energy consumption?

The Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1200W power supply will not instantly draw more electricity than necessary. It will pull only the amount of power required by the connected components in your system.

Buying a higher wattage power supply like the 1200W version would not lead to increased energy consumption. The power supply will only provide the amount of power that your components require, so it will not use more electricity than needed. However, it is important to note that higher-wattage power supplies are generally less efficient at lower loads. Therefore, if your system's power requirements remain low, the power supply might not run at its optimal efficiency range.

If your current PSU meets your system's power needs, there is typically no need to upgrade to a higher-wattage power supply unless you are significantly expanding or upgrading your system with power-hungry components such as multiple high-end graphics cards or processors.

hehe you making me sad now. I got a Corsair RM1000x SHIFT on the prime day deal, but hindsight this looks better for a few bob more.

If it's any help I got the Shift 1000X same deal too and it's been in my 7900XTX system with zero issues. No coil whine either.
