Not really. £17.25 per terabyte is pretty bad. Under £14/terabyte is decent for a HDD.

These are good drives for HDDs. I've had a lower capacity running for a number of years and it's not skipped a beat. I'd still like spinning rust to be cheaper especially now SSDs are getting denser bit this is at least a good drive, and ideal for a slightly more performant NAS that you cannot justify SSDs in. retro tech.

Absolute nonsense. Explain how you would get 20TB of storage for £300 but NVMe? Where's the 20TB NVMe for £300? Come on explain now how you would do that with modern tech and not "retro tech". Simple 20TB NVMe storage for £300, give us a link now, do it!

Here's your "retro tech" reference now get us a deal for same price for NVMe >

8TB of obsolete storage tech for the price of 5TB of flash- what a bargain. Yes, flash is still difficult to use in large capacities in home systems, but this will soon change when the industry produces new connectivity standards.

Actually, given the cost of NAS boxes, flash has a price EQUIVALENCE to HDD at this capacity (and somewhat larger). Dribblers will defend HDD tech like how, back in the day, they defended core store over transistor tech. Or steam engines over combustion engines. Idiocy never changes.

Where are you getting 5Tb of flash for this price with this performance and reliability? I can't see any decent SSDs with the same price per TB. If you want to make a point that the technology is obsolete then you should put up.

It's also irrelevant to say "soon" if you can't do it today then it's irrelevant for a deal. I've got no problem replacing my storage drives with 2.5" or an M2 carrier card, but they don't exist in a practical consumer products at the same price points.

Great drive at a good price. Great for NAS and demanding workload applications but not surveillance.

Put 25,000 hours on a 5TB X300 since 2016. Little noisier than the average drive but at frequencies that aren't annoying to me. Has been great, high performance. Would buy again

I know these are meant for NAS', but would it work on a gaming pc as a steam drive well enough?

This is a great price for A CMR disk , SMR disks are cheaper but you pay the price in write speeds
    I';ve learnt this lesson I bought a 8tb barracuda 117,

My PC ends up hanging cause it cant keep up with my internet when downloading torrents , my net can do 140mb/s but ye SMR drives can not cope with this. I;m tempted to get this and sell my seagate on ebay at a loss.

My warning to anyone who has faster then 800mbit connection do not touch SMR drives. Make sure you buy a CMR one for a little more such as this one. (edited)
