That's true but its good for those people who don’t have a neutral wire installed (edited)

Why do these need batteries if wired to the mains???

Because they are not wired to the mains.. Light switch will only complete an electrical circuit to provide current to the bulb

In most situations, forget the single switches imo - this system really benefits from using double switches & using the second switch to control another device.
This might be another light switch or a tapo smart plug.
E.g. replace a standard single switch with a double smart switch, have the first switch control the light as usual & the new second switch to control whatever makes most sense to the location - it's basically a free switch to another light already attached to a smart switch or plug.
It's great where you only have one switch point for a light & smart buttons can be used to provide a second switch wherever you'd want one. Smart buttons can also control tapo smart plugs.

I have three of these and they are great! Yea you need a hub and they take triple A batteries but they are so simple to install and set up it doesn’t bother me at all. I just wish they had a solution for two way switches and I’d fill the whole house with them.

Cool no neutral wire required.... I take it these can be flashed with tasmota?

Are there any Kasa/Tapo devices that can be flashed with tasmota? Specs say it uses 868mhz which I’m not familiar with but maybe it’s Lora.
