Newly released Tapo smart dimmer switch for the smart home. The "D" dimmer version comes with a faceplate which you can screw or mount into the wall if you require (I believe you can go without the faceplate if you need).

Technically you need the Tapo hub for this to work, but I think you could use a SDR and rtl_433 to use them with home assistant (or perhaps a custom integration).

This switch is an accessory to be used with other Tapo products, such as their range of smart bulbs and plugs. If you like the idea, I’d recommend first buying one of their relatively cheap smart bulbs (or plugs), which you connect to your Wifi and control via an app on your phone or using voice commands through Alexa, Google Home etc. You don’t need to buy any other product for a smart bulb or plug to work.

You could then add one (or more) of these optional switches as an additional way to control your smart bulbs/plugs, but for the switch to work you also need to buy a Tapo H100 Smart Hub with Chime.

Just use home assistant and you can control whatever you want with this.

Do you need a TAPO hub still for this to work?

I'm intrigued as to what the differences are between the S200B and the S200D. I've ordered one of each!

Interesting, I see they are doing a dual gang switch too.
All my bulbs and plugs are Kasa though

I thought the purpose of the square 1 or 2 gang smart light switches (S210 & S220) was to replace a traditional switch so you can turn on/off a circuit with any/standard light bulbs, either with the physical switch or remotely via app/voice. Whereas on the other hand, the round smart switches (S200B & S200D) only communicate with other Tapo smart bulbs (and some other Tapo products). That was the conclusion I came to, though I may be wrong.

Anyone have any experience using this and linking it to a KASA device(s) through IFTTT?

I'm invested in Kasa, but limited options in terms of switches. Was going to take the plunge and try this out (but I believe I'd need a hub too).

I'm hoping eventually Kasa and TAPO may live in the same eco-system. (edited)

I have tapo hub plus this and control a set of L930-5 lights with it

Whilst the lights come with an in line switch, it only caters for single click i.e. on/off or double click which cycles between the six presets you can setup.

With the s200d I have set it to alter brightness by turning and have the double click set to randomly select a colour. Single click is set to on/off as per inline button but I guess it could be set to something else

Why do they hide what "network" this needs? Is it zwave? Zigbee? 2.4ghz WiFi?

    None of those

Communicates over sub 1Ghz freq to tapo hub which in turn communicates over 2.4Ghz WiFi.

I've just received a T200B and it refuses to connect to the Tapo App without the Tapo Hub (which I'll receive later in the week) - so I would assume a T200D is the same. That said - someone tech savvy enough might be able to bypass that, but I don't think it will necessarily be straightforward. So ... this is a fab deal, but buy the Chime Hub thing with it

These use sub 1Ghz Freq to talk to the tapo hub which it self connects over 2.4Ghz WiFi to your network.

Anyone know if this is Matter compliant? Seems bizarre to release new mainstream IoT products without it, although there doesn't seem to be anything indiciating if it is or not!

Given I can find announcements from Jan 2022 i.e. over a year ago I suspect these predate matter integration

OK - so I now have the sibling product - an S200B - as well as a Tapo "Smart Hub with Chime" - H100. Unfortunately, these two items do not connect to Alexa ... at all. Other Tapo devices (plugs) might do - but there is no way for Alexa to recognise that a Tapo button has been activated.

As far as I can see - Tapo buttons will only worth with Tapo bulbs etc (edited)
