A new kind of hotel from Premier Inn
Our idea is simple. Do the essentials brilliantly, then take away everything else. You get a small room, a simple stay and best of all, a price to match – from £21 a night. The first ZIP has just opened in Cardiff, with more coming soon. Keep your eyes peeled for a ZIP near you.

BASICALLY BRILLIANT ROOMS
The flexible rooms can be made up as a single bed, twin single beds or pushed together to make a double. As well as a TV, there’s a small bathroom with a power shower, body wash and a towel, plus handy overhead storage and hangers.

EAT. WORK. CHILL.
Whatever you need ZIP for, we’ll help you get it done. There are drinks and light snacks at the bar, workstations and booths plus free Wi-Fi throughout. There’s also a chill-out area with table football and TV for all the big games. And every morning we serve up breakfast, for just £3.95.

ZIP IN. ZIP OUT.
At ZIP, we make your stay as quick and simple as possible with a no-frills approach. Here’s a bit more info on what to expect:

ROOM CLEANING
While you’re with us, we’ll clean your room every three days. If you’d like it cleaned daily, it’s an additional £10 per day.

IRONING ROOM
There’s a handy ironing room on each floor of the hotel which is free to use.

RANDOM ROOMS
Some rooms have a window. Some have a lightbox. All are basically brilliant. Your room is randomly allocated when you book. (Sorry, you won’t be able to pick.)

ACCESSIBILITY
ZIP is Universally Accessible, with seven bedrooms on the ground floor. The bedrooms are wheelchair-accessible, and have en-suite wet rooms with grab rails, emergency pull cords and more space to manoeuvre.

Strange location, at the back of a David Lloyd gym, with a large Morrisons nearby. Space is tight in the rooms, and the toilet & shower are small, but for the price they are worth putting up with. The bar area is quite large too, so if you get cabin fever there is somewhere else to go

It's a good 45 minutes walk into Cardiff from there, thought there is a bus stop about a 5 / 10 minute walk away

Horrible walk too. You are basically in the middle of a large industrial estate. Very heavy traffic. Not pedestrian friendly. Could easily get local buses into the centre though but if you want to be able to walk to anywhere dinner, bar etc, forget it.

Having stayed here before - positive is its cheap - negatives 1) the postcode for this hotel takes you to a pay display car park and not to hotel, I had to pay just to leave the car park 2) the room had bed bugs which ruined rest of camping trip to lands end, and we ended up bringing the critters home, cost arm and leg to clean furnishings, travel gear, and binned mattress - so I would not cheap out again and willing to pay extra for a clean room

    Disgusting!!!

Looks very sci-fi. Pop Blue Danube on and pretend you're in the space station on 2001: A Space Odyssey!

Stayed there couple of weeks ago. Never again no matter how cheap .

Room far too small if 2 are staying .
Bathroom you basically struggle to move in and if you planned to stay there after having a skinful then I can imagine so nasty injuries .
A shower that if you stay in more than 30 seconds , it overflows as the lip is so small .
Room wasn’t the cleanest either and it didn’t have an external window , but one that backed onto a corridor. Light from the corridor was annoying as the blind didn’t stop it all.
Beds were like rock so very uncomfortable.
As you can guess , I won’t be going back to a zip .
I do like the normal premier inn though .

There is literally this one I don't think they added any more. It's basically a cleaner easyhotel

I mean not for everyone ofcourse ...but it would be perfect for my posse and our little trips ...hope they open one in milton keynes by august. Airbnb and other hotels prices have us by the chokehold (edited)

Hmm, £21 to spend a night in a windowless coffin on an industrial estate just outside Cardiff? No thanks.

Or you could try the Luton/Egypt holiday posted earlier. So many choices......

I think these are a great idea. If I go to another city for a night out or time away, I don't really want to spend that much time in the hotel, unless to sleep. I know others will delight in a swanky hotel and all that, but for me, this is bang on. It costs me at least £40 to get a one-way taxi home from my nearest "big" city.

Sensible fee for a bed to sleep in overnight and shower in the morning, instead of finishing nights early for a long journey home on the last train, a shared taxi...I hope more appear soon.

Are you looking for a cozy and affordable place to call home for a getaway? Look no further than this charming micro room, conveniently located only 3.5 miles away from the city centre on a beautiful industrial estate.

This very compact and modern space offers everything you need for a comfortable and minimalist lifestyle. You'll love the features such as:

    - A small toilet and shower combo, perfect for saving time and water
    - A cozy bed that doubles as a sofa, ideal for relaxing or entertaining guests 😜
    - A sleek and stylish design, with no windows to distract you from your work or sleep. You don't even have to see the miserable weather, it's usually raining in Wales.
    - An energy-efficient unit, with no heating or cooling costs, it's all included in one great price.

Don't miss this opportunity to stay in a prime location, close to shops, restaurants, and public transport. This deal won't last long, so book your stay today and get ready to stay in a windowless, some say scifi style room! (edited)

Very decent price for room including parking and WiFi though it's about 3.5 miles from city centre ♨️

Do they pull the usual Premier Inn trick though of offering wifi for free which is about 40k/s or actual usable wifi (or "ultimate" wifi as they choose to call it) for an extra £5 a night?

Just remember to allow plenty of time to get there…. 20mph is a pain in the ass! (edited)

I will never understand frosted glass toilet doors. At what point did interior designers come together and decide "you know what would add to the room? Being able to see the silhouette of someone sitting on the john!".

At least it's a floor to ceiling door I suppose. I've been in some budget rooms where there's a gap top and bottom which isn't great for a small room with restricted ventilation.

I've seen this abroad in Asia, more common than I thought in China and often without a lock on the door.

Are there any pools in any of the hotels?

This hotel is perfect for work for 1 night away, it’s a shame they didn’t make more
    lordrobs's avatar
Maybe if I had a per diem rate instead of an expense account!

    £135 per night allowance
    -£21 for the room
-£6 for "Pizza and a pint"
    = £108 profit

    £5 extra pillows, £10 room clean. That’s a joke.

Ideal place to go with that "unofficial" special one and do your homemade video... Everything is in less than 6 feet sway, from shower to bed and vice versa, multiple poses and ideas could be applied 😝😝😝😝

Don't add breakfast. You will not get what they advertise because of one excuse or another.

I booked one for a gig a while ago, managed to book a proper hotel in town so will be cancelling the booking. £70 more, but it's not a convenient location.

Stayed here once before when going to a concert in Cardiff Arena. It’s a little far out, about £15 each way in an Uber or 5-10 minute walk to the bus stop.

Room was extreamly basic but clean and quiet. Served its purpose for 1 night but if you book early enough for a couple of pounds more you can get a room in a travelodge in the city centre.

Booked Cardiff for the night to break my trip to Cornwall up (from Manchester) £22.50 for a double room - 2 adults

I'll give these a swerve but to be fair I've stayed in similar sized rooms at pubs before all be it with a bit more of a friendly décor. One that sticks in my mind was a "four star" room that was TINY but it had a massive chandelier (that you hit your head on), Nespresso machine and a fridge so they'd got their box tick 4* rating. That was a hell of a lot more than £21 a night too!
