Im running Windows 10 on a 3 or so year old desktop. I have Malwarebytes running in the-background for virus and malware protection. Nothing has been found on scans. I mainly use MS Edge as the browser.
I have completely given up using Nord as this was also causing speed issues.
The computer is almost next to the router. Speed tests show speeds to be as they should be.
ipad usage on WiFi has no issues whatsoever. Neither does another desktop in the same room.
What should I be checking?
Thanks.","comment":[{"@type":"Comment","@id":"https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/52360772","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"TristanDeCoonha"},"datePublished":"2024-03-10T22:22:08.000Z","text":"If Nord is like it's sister Surfshark then you should be able to get an idea of server load. While you're in Task Manager, look at your WiFi / network adapter. click on performance
see what the bottleneck is
is it your c: drive or is it your processor maxing out?
maybe you have some windows updates in the background. try and complete those
do you have a hard drive or SSD? windows is terrible on hard drive
maybe you have lots of random background apps
click on processes and then cpu and see what is running in the background
maybe you have lots of random addins or even out of date ones on your browser
you could try and disable them
but try and install a fresh browser
try firefox or brave and if the same problem then it's not the browser
if no problem then the browser could have dodgy add ons
good luck!"},{"@type":"Comment","@id":"https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/52360859","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"louiselouise"},"datePublished":"2024-03-10T22:39:46.000Z","text":"Check the add-ons on your browser (I had a Youtube Downloader one that was playing up last week and was making all my tabs hang on Mozilla).

For James
Task manager – an enormous listof stuff I have no clue about but – in the very top first two columns – 1% CPU sometimes going up to 12 % but changing all the timeand 29% memory
Background processes = 79 – Nord seems to take up 150mb and malware bytes 220mb being the largest in the list – MS Edge seems to be 70mb – everything else much lower.at the time of looking at this Nord was not in use. I’m considering uninstalling it
Ssd – was 42 days since being last optimised so I optimised it.
Start up processes – The following are High Impact = MS Edge and MS One Drive, Mailwasher Pro, Nord (Now switch off from start up)- there are 2 medium impact (Windows Security notification icon) Realtek HD Audio Manager – everything else in the list is already Off
Memory – Install RAM = 16.0GB
For LouiseLouise - I Have checked from MS browser add ons – It shows 2 – Malware bytes browser guard and Google Doc (although I don’t use this so could remove it)
For Pajaro – with the computer idling the numbers being reported are S:0 kbpsR 0 kbps – whilst on that page PU = 1% - Memory 29% - Disk 1 SSD 0% = Disk 0 HDD 0%
For David – I ran the netsh winsock reset – no noticeable improvement
I have now completely uninstalled Nord and am pleased to report that things seem to be much better. I’m going to leave it at that as currently can’t spend much time with it but thanks again to you all including anyone I did not name."}],"commentCount":12,"interactionStatistic":11,"articleSection":"Ask"}
