Are you going for clout or target?
Do you want a proper bow, or do you want to cheat and take the easy route like the Americans, with all the wheels and twiddly bits?
How much are you prepared to spend on the bow, and do you have a small fortune set aside for the shafts?
    What area are you in?
How much time are you prepared to put into it?
What is your height, gender, and upper body strength? And those 3 are important.
I can put answers to my friend who is somewhere near the top in the National rankings.
You do realise that you can't just let fly anywhere, so you might have to join a club anyway, to use their ground and insurance

I guess I’d start with target. Just a regular bow is fine.
I’d say up to £100 for the bow and some arrows.

5ft 11”..Male..not sure how to gauge that but average slim.
I know for sure there’s a range in a nearby wood.

Decathlon sell perfectly reasonable stuff. Otherwise start with a used bow from a local club.
