Listeria outbreak - check your steamed veg packs

Found 6th Jul
My wife had similar symptoms after eating steam in the bag veg from Tesco. I didn't eat it because it tasted odd.

Several supermarkets are affected including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Lidl, Aldi, Waitrose and Iceland

Frozen corn and possibly other frozen vegetables (EFSA) are the likely source of an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes that has been affecting Austria, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom since 2015.

"As of June 8, 47 cases including nine deaths had been reported" in the EU ( 2 British deaths ) since 2015. (Splender's observation on the maths of risk of death rate : very approximately the chance as for winning the top prize in Euromillion lottery.)

To reduce the risk of infection, consumers should thoroughly cook non ready-to-eat frozen vegetables, even though these products are commonly consumed without cooking (e.g. in salads and smoothies). This applies especially to consumers at highest risk of contracting listeriosis – such as the elderly, pregnant women, new-borns and adults with weakened immune systems.

60p bag of veg - not really worth going and claiming a refund for. Just chucked our bag in the bin

I've been sick, with flu type symptoms, a few times after eating frozen mixed veg *with sweetcorn in, from lidl/aldi over the last couple of years, maybe this explains it!

Thrown the rest of what I had in the freezer away, sticking to frozen broccoli/carrots/cauliflower for the time being.

Thanks for posting this op!

And if you don't eat meat etc.

Just in case you are not as well educated as you should be about listeria:

Listeria: Frequently Asked Questions. It's a harmful bacterium that can be found in refrigerated, ready-to-eat foods (meat, poultry, seafood, and dairy - unpasteurized milk and milk products or foods made with unpasteurized milk), and produce harvested from soil contaminated with L. monocytogenes.

Shocking News, who knew that food not cooked properly can harm you.

+1
still got half a bag of value sweetcorn in the freezer the first half didn't kill me
was still wondering if it could be returned for a refund without the receipt ?
Tesco don't even sell it as value anymore

Another point I think is worth making is that this frozen veg is not 'designed' to be kept for long
it should treated in much the same way as fresh veg.

and another one
In my experience beyond peas, sweetcorn and chips it is cack anyway.
Does this prove that Asda gets it's frozen veg from a different place?
