Upcycling drawers - how to finish?

Looking for some wisdom.

Have googled phenomenally and a lot of answers being thrown into the mix. Looking for actual tried and tested recommendations please!

Have sanded and repainted drawers / a desk - how to coat / seal it? Looking for non varnish options / matt finish. TIA
