sorted byThis is Nintendo we’re talking about
Yeah I tell me about it. I was pretty excited when I pick up the SNES Mini, then found it doesn't come with a charger. Fine. I go and buy a charger from them.
Now I've just bought a Switch and set it up for the first time today. As I'm playing around with the system, I've just found the Joy Con Grip doesn't have a USB charging port. I need to go and spend another £25 for that 'luxury'.
Nintendo really know how to screw over people who support them.
£14.95 delivered from Base and in stock. (edited)
You can just put the Joycons back on the console though...
Yeah unless you have 2 sets of joy cons they charge when you aren’t playing fine.
No. So you can plug in the charger that came with the console in the first place
According to the store checker, no stores have it.
Base smashing it for switch owners right now.
went through their preorders earlier and they are cheapest on most.
*Raises eyebrow* I'm pretty sure it was £3 more just earlier!
Don't know what you're talking about mate.
Yep just ordered super Mario party game + joy Cons from them. If it hadn’t been so much of a discount I would have just got the base game
I’m after that as I’m longing for coloured joy cons after buying grey.
Didnt see it earlier on base.... is base cheapest? (edited)
I believe it is the cheapest if that’s what you mean
I even re-typed it and it still didn’t make sense ha
It does now it’s just how you wrote it before
I’m blaming autocorrect honest.
I retyped it after your comment
It was never a problem for me though. I bought a pro controller a month afterwards and so every time I played my switch without it my joycons would be fully charged and I wouldn’t have to worry. Charging the console charges them too
I know you can, but the point is Nintendo deliberately omitted the option to have a usb charge slot.
That way they can sell you another accessory for something that should really be included as standard.
It’s the same situation with online stuff. Now you have to pay to use online features where a lot of games people like to only use the online features
I feel lucky the Switch came with a charger. The 3DS in recent years has not been supplied with one when bought new. Is a bit like selling you a car without wheels.
But the 3DS one isn’t as expensive as a switch one to buy separately
They don't include chargers with everything anymore to reduce redundancy and waste, which I think is a great idea because I don't like waste and who doesn't have spare USB cables and chargers already? I didn't have a USB-C cable before getting a Switch, but it was a good excuse to invest in a decent Quick Charger and a few new cables, so I don't see it as adding to the cost of the console at all.
But then you're exactly right about the grip - it (or at least each individual Joy Con) should have USB charging as standard, like any other controller. If you buy a charging grip, then your non-charging grip is redundant, which is more wasteful than another spare USB cable lying around the house. I really do question Nintendo's logic at times...
It's more like a car without fuel - but fuel is plentiful and easy to buy. They stopped including chargers with the 3DS XL because the original 3DS and DSi before it had used the same charger, so they were already common and easy to buy separately. They could have just charged £10 more for the console and included a charger, but then everyone's paying £10 more whether they need to or not, and it's not as if it's difficult to buy a charger along with the console if you need one.
Yeah, I mean I get that there's a port on the bottom because that's how it sits in the dock but surely they could have designed it differently or just added a second charge port in a place that's more convenient for tabletop mode.
To be honest I've never once since launch seen the low battery warning on the joycons. And I own two sets.
Normally I spot the consoles battery low, and I'll put it in the dock. I split my usage so the joycons must get enough charge either when in the dock or connected to the switch. I don't really see the issue, and the charging grip is unnecessary. You may as well buy a 3rd party controller at that's price and form factor.
A reasons why they decided to omit a usb charge port of each joycons, maybe because people will use motion control while connected to the plug socket and causes damage to the joycons or worse injury. Idk.
I do really think they should of designed the power in the same as the Wii u, with a dock power port at the bottom and a charge port also at the top. For choice
