The console for gamers on the go. Nintendo Switch Lite is a compact, lightweight addition to the Nintendo Switch family, with integrated controls.

Nintendo Switch Lite supports all Nintendo Switch software that can be played in handheld mode. It’s great for people who have lots of opportunities to play outside, and also for anyone who wants to play online or local wireless multiplayer with friends or family who already own a flagship Nintendo Switch console.

As a dedicated handheld gaming device, Nintendo Switch Lite does not support output to a TV.

Features:

  • It’s easy to take your favourite games with you: Nintendo Switch Lite can play all Nintendo Switch software that supports handheld mode. If a game supports Joy-Con functions such as HD rumble, IR Motion Camera and Joy-Con motion sensors, some features will not be available using Nintendo Switch Lite alone. Joy-Con controllers (sold separately) are required to use these features. For games that do not support handheld mode, players can wireless connect Joy-Con controllers (sold separately) to Nintendo Switch Lite. In these cases, users will need to have a device to recharge Joy-Con controllers, such as the Joy-Con charging grip. To find play mode compatibility information for specific games, please refer to the product packaging or Nintendo eShop.
  • Link up to eight consoles for multiplayer: Local multiplayer - Players can sync together up to eight Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite consoles to play competitive and co-operative multiplayer games. Online multiplayer - with a Nintendo Switch Online membership, you can play with friends far away and players around the world, access a growing library of classic NES games with added online features, enjoy exclusive offers such as Tetris 99 and Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers, and more.

If only it had video out... it’s not something they should left out of a device called Switch. I go to work, I play games, then I come home and dock it. It’s the whole reason for the console! They don’t need a dock, just need to be able to get video out of USB-C...

I’m really Interested in a smaller Switch, the standard one isn’t really portable, it’s cumbersome. So disappointed they cheaper out a few pence on video out.

One word of warning, I bought one of these less than 2 weeks ago on the Curry's deal with Link's Awakening - having dismissed the idea of joycon drift as being exaggerated - and mine has already gone wrong. Left direction on the joystick works about 50% of the time, 40% nothing happens, 10% turns right... not impressed and annoyed i'll have to send off and risk losing progress etc... My first Nintendo system since the 64 so feels like a big let down.

Free joycon drift with every purchase too.

Really stuck between this and the 'full' Switch. I'm not REALLY too concerned about the docking capabilities, but it might get used. Is there a noticeable difference between the two other than price?

Push comes to shove, I'll just wait till Black Friday, at the end of next month to see what's on offer

There is always the risk that the control sticks will drift after a while with the Lite. It is very common on the original, but we don't know if it will be common with the Lite yet. With the Lite you have to return the entire console to Nintendo to fix, while with the original Switch you just need to return the problematic controller.

Also, if it is outside the warranty and you don't want to fix it yourself (which is harder with the lite) or are not comfortable doing so, you need to buy a new console if you have a Lite, but just a new controller with the original Switch.

I want to buy a Lite to compliment my original Switch, but I am nervous because I have already had multiple drifting controllers on the original. One of which started drifting just after my warranty ended. (edited)

Yeah I'm sure they increased it before this coupon became available and then once more since.

The yellow one is now £220 and the turquoise/grey are £230 last time I checked. A further jump above RRP. Quite ridiculous. (edited)

I had the same conundrum. Went for the Lite and have been loving it. I had the same reservations about missing docked but I'm enjoying short handheld gaming sessions so much more.

I hardly use my switch in docked mode, reason being I would be playing xbox instead. What a difference it is though playing on the TV. Definitely worth the extra.

I had the exact same issue on my switch lite, same stick, same direction, thought I was just unlucky... I returned to amazon for a replacement console since it was still within 14 days of release... been ok since touch wood!

I mean I filled in the repair form with no serial number or purchase date and got the free label. Job done sent it back and 3 weeks later got both back working with a 12 month slip I will upload it later.

I personally use my switch a lot in docked.

But I also know people who mainly use it in portable mode. So... Yeah, lol

As an alternative, the Tesco offer of switch lite and 1 game (from a good selection) is £179 with the £20 off a £150 spend till coupon, though you need to buy something else first and the coupon is not guaranteed. I'd post it as a deal if it wasn't for that. (edited)

Definitely personal preference. I have both and I use the lite alot more because I mainly play portable. Obviously the switch will give you the best of both worlds though so it really depends on whether you will ever want to play on the TV.

If you're debating about which Switch model to get, then get the regular Switch. In the long run the slight extra you paid will be worth it, not only for docked mode but also full compatibility with all games.

I always take my Switch to friends houses, hook it up to the TV and take the joy cons off for some party games. For me it's the best party game console since the GameCube.

The only reason I can see getting the Lite is if you know you'll only play it on the go and never at home or with friends.

Just wait for a good deal on the regular Switch, especially with Black Friday coming up.

I went for the lite and now I'm starting to regret it. The console is great but I find it uncomfortable for long gaming sessions. I'd like the flexibility to dock or just set the screen down and change up my grip/wrist position by disconnecting joycons.

Still a cracking console though and excellent price.

No the switch lite doesn't have a dock. It's the dock that contains the hdmi out.

The other main differences are that the screen is slightly smaller and that the joycons can't be separated from the device, so some games won't be as 'interactive'. The switch lite is compatible with any game which would have worked with the original switch in handheld mode so games should have been programmed to take this into account.

Personally i already have an Xbox and ps attached to my tv, having a device for my kids that can't be connected to the tv is a bonus for me so i actually get some time to play games as well.

    Aha, brilliant response
Still stick drift isn't the thing it's made out to be, it's got way over hyped.
I don't doubt it can be a problem with some devices but then so could the fan not working on a brand new Wii U(that wasn't widely reported).
The sticks are way better on the lite.

Can you name the more important reasons in your opinion? I'm not fussed about docked mode, and the joycon drift is obviously annoying but if it can be sent off to be fixed, it's just like any other handheld hardware issue.
