I dunno, talking to a brick wall wouldn't frustrate me in quite the same way

It's so straight forward anyone should be able to understand it. YOUR OWN CONTENT. IE, any video, music or photo you posess. Can't get a hold of the latest blockbuster you want? Well then not that. Got 500 episodes of Coronation Street on your hard disk? Well you can watch that then. It's really simple.

Why do you need to pay to do that... there's tons of free ways to do it

Oof. I was just naming a random TV show that popped in to my head. Like we've been saying "Your own content". Obviously if you want to just watch stuff that's on BBC iPlayer for example there's no point in buying a Plex Pass.

I think you're confused as to what Plex is. Essentially, it's a media centre for your media files. So let's say you have some films, tv shows and music files on your computer that you've ripped from disc or downloaded. You install the Plex server on your PC and download the Plex app for your TV, mobile, other PCs, tablets etc. You can then browse your media collection with the Plex UI (like having your own personal Netflix).

As long as the plex media server is running on the device your media is on, you'll be able to connect to it and watch your content from a device in the same room to a device on the other side of the planet.

Plex Pass offers more features such as downloads to those devices rather than streaming, amongst other things, but the core functionality is free. Here's a list of what paying for Plex Pass gets you. support.plex.tv/art…iew (edited)

It's just your own content mostly. Quite clever for watching your films/music from your server at someone else's house or on your commute... Might feel a bit not worth it, but once you've paid out and forgotten about it you'll be glad you did it. It's a very above board system so none of the Kodi add one are available or IPTV.

Plex is a wonderful app. (I use mainly it to stream to my projector from my server).
Having a Plex pass has several advantages, the most useful (for me) is plexamp which can stream my own music to my phone or car.

If someone would answer my question instead of being an arrogant smart ass then all will be fine

Thanks to Op - @AggyMarmite . Worked fine.

@gaz_anthony - it's whatever digital content you have at home (mobile/tablet photo's, videos, music, ripped movies) and any additional content you download from the net... (edited)

You can actually run a program that can parse IPTV Streams to act as a HDHomeRun TV Tuner which can then be added to plex.

I've been a Plex user for about 10 years now and I'd be lost without it. Before it I used a Popcorn Hour player and then dabbled with XBMC. But Plex has continued to be head and shoulders above the competition, so when an offer came up a few years back for a lifetime pass at half price, I jumped at the chance. I share my media server with family and they all use the app. As others have said it's Netflix for your OWN content. I'm happy knowing I gave the developers a few bucks because I'd be lost without their software.

I tried that but stupidly Plex was trying to debit £366.66 GBP from my Revolut card and as I don’t have that balance the transaction didn’t go through.

Afterwards when I looked through the currencies offered by Revolut, I couldn’t even see Brazil $ listed!

Just built a media server recently and was looking into options such as Plex and Emby. Still hadn't fully weighed up the pros and cons of each but I thought I'd better get on this deal before it expires.

Thanks for this tip. Managed to get it working today. Very impressive. Have it running on a Synology NAS in a Docker container. I love the fact I can now use Plex to record and playback my IPTV. I'd never heard of this until I read your post. Thanks again!
