EDIT: Currys finished the deal early on 7th September without warning. It was initially scheduled to run until 28th September 2021.

The iPad Air is currently £499 (all colours) at Currys which is similar price to other stores, however, there is a promotion running where you can trade in any old working iPad for a guaranteed minimum trade in of £150 (or an extra £50 trade in if you old iPad trade in value is more than £150)

For example, a 16GB iPad 2 is valued at £4, but with the guaranteed minimum trade in, it will work out as a £150 discount off a new iPad Air.

If you trade in a 32GB 9.7" 2016 iPad Pro, the trade in value is £156 - to get the maximum value from the offer, you can select an extra £50 trade in, giving a total discount of £206 against a new iPad Air, taking the price down to £293

If not I’ll ask them to return it.I didn’t want a MacBook anyway, was only after the newer iPad so was really changing it

So after a lot to-ing and fro-ing about the wording of the trade-in offer (they would only offer me £26 for my iPad 4 and not the additional £150) I called their bluff and asked them to return my iPad

I get this email and got paid yesterday 💪🏽

Thanks for trading in with Currys.

The team has informed us that they were unable to send your device back to you because it has already been processed.
As a form of compensation, we will process the price including the promotional offer of £176 into your account. Please look out for an email shortly. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

    Thanks,
    The Currys Trade In Team

    Edit:
For those wondering what the ‘dispute’ was…
There was nothing on their website that specifically clarified you need to buy a MacBook first. Tried my luck and just happened to win (edited)

Don't think they actually want the charger anyway as they put it in a Jiffy bag with a barcode on so would end up damaging the iPad.

Just want to warn anyone who maybe using the Luton Branch for trade in. The last 2 occasions when I went there for trade ins....

Their previous offer was for any tablet trade in. I know on this occasion "iPad for an iPad"

1st time - took in a 2 years old Fire Tablet 7", they moaned about it is not on their system so can't use it as a "trade in". After I showed them the Trade in info on Currys' website, they agreed to accepted it. They wanted the charger and the USB cable too. And I purchased an iPad straight away.

2nd time - took in a 6 months old Fire Tablet 8", same problem again. The guy remembered me from the previous occasion, said that he accepted the last trade in as an "exception" and can't make anymore "exceptions". Didn't get a trade in.

Went to the Stevenage Branch, they accepted it without any problem at all. They just wanted the tablet, switched it on, then "OK". Purchased an iPad from them. (edited)

I was also late to the party but managed to get a £154 voucher with a bit of faff a couple of days ago.

Took my iPad 2 in, but told the iPad specific trade-up deal had ended. They did however have the deal for at least £150 off a Macbook continuing until 28/09/21.

I ummed and ahhed for a bit and thought this may be the best use of my otherwise £4 iPad 2 so said I would go for a Macbook via trade-up. They asked me which specific model and colour I would like, then I was given a £154 voucher. When I got home, voucher seemed to work on any item - so I bought a new iPad with it instead!

Voucher, purchase and collection all went through okay, I have picked up my iPad Air today.

Good luck, bit of a gamble but possible.

Do you have to buy instore then to do the trade in at the same time?

It depends . . . . experience seems to differ depending on stores

In theory, you should be able to take the old iPad to store and get the trade in voucher emailed to you so you can use it online later if the iPad Air isn't in stock at the store
You should also be able to do the trade in at the store, and get the store to order a new iPad Air to the store for collection or to your home address

Based on similar threads with Currys trade in, all of these are possible but some stores seem to interpret the rules differently, so you may find you get a different result in another store.

Few scratches on the back but didn't really look at it in great deal.

    The website states:
    • Powers on and off with working battery
    • Has no damage, cracks or missing parts
    • Is fully functional
    • Has no screen bleed
    • Has no water damage
    • Has no signs of the screen lifting at the edges or corners

So seems to be more focused around the screen.

Well you don't know till you try I guess... Took an original iPad in this morning to Curry's in Highgate, Birmingham. The fact it's over 10 years old didn't seem to matter, they were genuinely impressed that it was in good condition so they offered me £150 so I got a 64GB iPad Air 4 for £349!! The actual value of the original was £5 lol I left feeling like I had robbed Curry's a little bit 🙈 don't get how they are making money on this, anyone know? (edited)

Just to add to this anyone that has already purchased get on to currys live chat and get them to price match AO priced @ £499 - £25 discount code so £474. AO code is KNDBCIFMPD. And that offer is £25 off computing over £299. That’s another £25 for everyone who has purchased

So two of my original price matches didn’t go through.

When I got back on live chat they refused to do the match (as they probably should have originally).

After trying three or four other cheaper prices I eventually settled for just matching the AO £20 voucher.

A couple of days later I got an email through, and the lady somehow refunded me £99.80 per iPad!

Depends if the store give you the trade in gift card to take away. When I did this deal on a MacBook, they emailed me the trade in gift card. It said it had to be used in the next 12 months and had to be used in a purchase containing a MacBook - I expect it would be similar for the iPad - the voucher will most likely be limited to use on an iPad Air or Pro (not mini or 'regular' iPad)

I just took the iPad mini 2 in. No box, charger or cable.

To be honest, they were short staffed, the bloke I got had only been there a week so had to get help off another assistant who also didn’t know her arse from her elbow, was totally confused about the deal and also said I needed the charger. I asked if she was sure (well, basically said no I don’t), she went to get the manager who came over and said no, we don’t need the charger, just the iPad. They then packaged it up (in a laptop sized box because they had no iPad ones left) and printed off the £150 gift card. (edited)
