    Not removable from the enclosure.

WD 2.5" drives replace the controller board with a single USB bridge board, as opposed to using a standard drive.

MyPassport supports hardware encryption and has some associated apps / tat, Elements does not.

I've had my 2TB one for 5 years, working perfectly since day one (edited)

Have bought a few recertified WDs over the years and never had any issues. What's the difference between these and the MyPassport range as they're always slightly cheaper?

Not sure it's worth it for a re-certified drive. They checked that it's not actually dead, but it's going to have a reduced lifespan as some of the spare blocks will already be used up.

Don't keep anything important that isn't backed up on there.

Thanks, also grabbed the 5Tb version to replace my 4Tb seagate which failed at the weekend. Whilst not the fastest or most reliable, they're ok for keeping old Xbox games on which don't need to be on SSD

Anyone know if the current extra 1 year of warranty offer is included with recertified products ? Can't find anything to say otherwise.

Don't think so as the page only shows a 1 year warranty

All the pages i have looked at dont mention the extra warranty (including standard non recert purchases) extra warranty terms page suggests whatever the warranty showing on the item pages (1,2 years etc) then an extra year is added to it - a bit confusing

Ordered with 10% discount code. The 15% youth code can’t be used on top of it.

Hiya, did that mean that the WD 2.5" MyPassport has a removable HDD?
  17. Christopher_Lees's avatar
    No....

While it's (technically) a drive in there, it doesn't connect to anything other than the supplied USB cable, so removal of the enclosure is pointless.

    Thanks... good to know.

I wonder what's the technical difference between this drive and that MyPassport model... other than the case, I cannot think of anything.
