Pet mat here. Self cooling, not sure what that means but it sounds high tech. The gel cracks and becomes cool. Non-toxic.

Yours for £6 delivered.

LARGE PET SELF COOLING GEL MAT

Dimensions: 711mm x 510mm

Excessive air temperature can cause heatstroke in pets

Decreased appetite/lack of energy/fast breathing…

Our pet cooling mat is one of the effective ways to prevent overheating!

This Dog Cool Mat is pressure activated and will cool your pet on contact for 3-4 hours and will keep your pet 5-7 degrees below ambient temperature.

This cooling mat doesn’t need to be put in the fridge but helps dissipate heat away from the dog’s body when it lies on it.

Dog Cool Gel Mat will keep your pet 5-7 degrees below ambient temperature.

No need to add water, freeze or chill!

Your dogs and cats will love the soothing coolness & cushioning comfort that scientifically designed and press activated pet cooling mat.

Conventional dog beds absorb & trap your dog’s body heat, creating an uncomfortable hot spot.

Much thicker and better than most of the other cooling mattes in market.

Avoid touching the product surface with sharp objects.

It’s recommended to cut and polish your pets' nails before using.

Not sure about cats and I'd imagine some may claw it. These are ideal for dogs, some of whom are prone to overheating in hot weather and can often be found lying on tiled floors in summer, to cool down.

One of the more important things, that seems to be lost on many dog owners, is not to walk dogs in the blazing heat and to carry water for them, when it's hot.

    Heat added. (edited)

Did you put it in the freezer first? I'm not sure about this one, but the ones I have are supposed to be left in the freezer overnight.

I get them out in the morning and put them under the dog's blanket in his bed and he seems happy with that.

These don't last long, our old labrador popped her one and it leaked everywhere..
They sell these in B&M as well (edited)

had one of these from amazon last summer - was a waste of money, lasted about a week before it was broken and the gel was leaking out, dog didn't like it and barely had any cooling effect at all and just generally looks pretty aesthetically unappealing - threw it out after a week

The whole point of this is not to add heat, isn't it?

I'm not sure if the one's I bought were advertised as self cooling, they looked exactly the same and I've no idea how they would achieve this. They appear to have some gel impregnated foam inside that remains cold for longer after being placed in a cold environment.

We also looked into raised beds, which seem like a good idea, but our chap was pretty elderly and we felt he might become a bit unstable getting off it when sleepy.

I didn’t even think to check! Tbh, I think the picture of the retriever on it makes it look bigger. Mine measures correctly vs the write up. 710mm x 510mm

A warm area to lie down will be the last thing on a pets mind during a a heatwave .

Fair enough. On the box it says medium whereas the paperwork says large. Don't think it matters to be honest
