The GEL-SONOMA™ 6 G-TX running shoe is designed for the great outdoors. Taking inspiration from the ASICS trail running family, this shoe is a versatile offering that's functional for trail runs, light hiking, and other outdoor adventures. We also used fewer resources to color the sockliner for a more sustainable design approach. This updated version of our trail shoe is complemented with a GORE-TEX™ upper to help keep feet dry in wet conditions.

I bought two pairs of Sonoma 5 GTX just under two years ago, and i can count on one hand the number of times my feet have gotten wet in them, They've been excellent for me. Seems other people not been so lucky.

    Same for my 4's.
I haven't bought ASICS last 2 years but probably had 2 pairs or running and 3 pairs of casual asics trainers last 5-6 years and never had any sort of issues. By far the more robust and comfortable stuff I've had since good old Umbros 20 years ago.

I like asics, I like the sonoma trainers (have 2 pairs), but gore tex on trail shoes seems odd to me as they keep the water in when you inevitably run through a puddle slightly deeper than expected.

Asics shoes seem to have lessened in quality the last few years.

My last two pairs of sonoma have both split at the sides; one pair with barely any use so I went for the Goretex and they split too. Other Asics I have owned in the last few years seem to have been cut back on quality overall.

Am now looking to try a different trail shoe after decades with Asics. Any suggestions would be welcome. (edited)

I wouldn't buy these again. Upper fell apart well before the tread could go. Wait for a deal on Nike peg trail gtx.

I’ve had 4 or 5 pairs of ASICS GTX. Best to go a half size above your usual ASICS size due to membrane.

Had some of these, very comfortable but leaked within a matter of months. Normally I get a year or two out of GTX shoes before the membrane goes. I tried to claim under warranty but they gave me a pfo response.

I have complained to ASICS before and had to reply a few times expressing my disappointment. They did give me a discount of a new pair so maybe worth a follow up email

Every pair of ASICS I've had the toes burst through the mesh at the front. The soles on these will be lucky to last 2 months if you're using these daily

My sonoma gtx 5 goretex were awful, tread went slick in under 10 months.

    Are these water proof?

Yes (afaik all Gore-Tex stuff is waterproof)

Last pair I had of these I had to go up at least a whole size due to the gortex inner and even then they were slightly pinchy...As others have alluded to - they soon started letting water in and the tread wore away quicker than expected. (edited)

had these before, not even in the slightest waterproof, gone back to my Adidas terrex gore-tex trainers which are so much better
