Gas is still much cheaper per KW then Electricity after the price rises, so I am ditching my electric kettle and substituting with one of these. Benefit of gas is any extra heat used escapes and heats up kitchen/house.

Never leave a hot burner under an empty kettle as well as wasting energy, it can discolour and damage the kettle. Should your kettle be allowed to boil dry, turn off the heat and leave kettle to cool down before moving from heat source. Allow your kettle to cool down gradually before immersing in cold water. Use only low to medium heat setting. At temperatures above 350 ‘c (660 f) . There will be discolouration. Above 500’C (932 f) the kettle will be irreparably damaged.

Cleaning
For normal cleaning, hot or warm water with a household detergent, soft sponge or cloth is adequate. Never use steel wool or other abrasive products. Not recommended for use in dishwasher. If discolouration or hard deposits form due to excessive heat application, cleaning with a little vinegar or lemon juice may remove the blemish.

I have used one since the end of March this year, they do take a little longer to boil granted but if you refill it (half) as soon as its empty it takes less time next time as it will not be freezing to start .It also heats the kitchen on a cold day it sounds ridiculous but is true ) yes costs less per KW. I have a gas hob cooker. (edited)

Good for atop the log burner

The burners on gas hobs though are very inefficient. There are people who are using camping stoves with the little gas bottles and are finding them cheaper to run than their hobs

Had mine on for 3 hours, used 1/10th of a unit so about 1/3rd of a penny per hour.

not very useful if you live in a only electric flat..like my brother did.. or if you have your gas supply turned off..
you may think its cheaper.. but your forgetting the daily charge on the gas.. and if your only using gas for this.. then it works out more expensive..
    sussexroyal's avatar
nobody would use gas just for this

I have this kettle from Amazon and it works well. There are some odd reviews about it being discoloured and such. Just ensure you stick it on a hob that’s smaller then it’s base and you’ll be fine.

Some also complaining about the handle being warm, just make sure you actually sealed the lid firmly and this again will not be an issue. Have been using stove top kettles since I was a kid at my grandmas place so I’m used too the quirks.

Lost art it seems for some. But that’s understandable. It build is good for what it is. Pretty lightweight. Same warming principle applies only pour in what you need to use at the time and it’ll boil faster and save energy. (edited)

My electric kettle started to leak, and I noticed over the years that’s how they all break. Anyway I have hot drinks on average 5 times a week using my own electric; (my goodness that just wasn’t on my radar 6 months ago). The last 3 months I just boiled sufficient water in a milk pan and it’s just as quick. Do you think we are conditioned to consumerism or would this stove top kettle benefit. I recognise it’s a fantastic price but given I’ve gone from one extreme to another. What do you guys think? BTW I have an electric flat surface cooker, no gas. (edited)
