Appreciate it's not the best brand in the world, but for a bedroom or as a second TV, it's hard to argue with the price for a 50" 4K HDR Smart TV. Details below from richer sounds.

4K HDR for crystal-clear clarity
For the most detailed, clearest images, the Sharp 50DL2K uses a 4K HDR screen. 4K is now widely available, from gaming to streaming boxsets. It offers four times the resolution of 1080p FHD, making detail truly ‘pop’ from the screen. Making the most of the 4K resolution, standard HDR10 and HLG optimise the image quality. Both HDR formats help maximise the detail and colour tones, especially in darker parts of the picture.

Smooth motion handling
Working with the 4K HDR screen, Active Motion 600 technology delivers smooth, blur-free motion, especially when watching fast moving sports events and action movies. This Sharp 50 inch TV uses their ACE Pro Ultra picture processing engine for fast and efficient picture processing.

Game Mode for enhanced response
Switch to Game mode and the TV bypasses unnecessary processing, giving you the fastest and most responsive gaming experience. Working with both 4K and FHD games, you get a split second advantage, keeping you one-step ahead.

Harman Kardon and DTS for sound that’s well above average
Famed for their home hi-fi and car audio speakers, Harman Kardon audio technology gives the Sharp 50DL2K sound that’s crisper and better balanced than its rivals. DTS Virtual:X gives a more spacious and enveloping sound – perfect for drawing you in to your favourite movie.

Smarter TV with Android TV
Smart TV doesn’t get much smarter than when it’s powered by Android TV. Google-certified Android TV accesses Google Play’s store of over 5000 Android apps to bring you the content you want. Check out movies, box sets, TV shows, news, sports and games – all under one roof. With streaming services such as Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube to hand, near limitless viewing entertainment is always on tap.

Chromecast built-in
With Chromecast built-in, it’s easy to mirror content from your smartphone, tablet or laptop. Simply bring up the movie, show, app or game on your device and, within an instant, it’s showing on the big screen.

Connect to your Google Assistant device for voice control
For the simplest control, this Sharp TV responds to voice command via Google Assistant. Just connect any Google Assistant device (sold separately) and enjoy voice control via Google. Change the volume, channel or power on/off, all by simply asking.

Freeview Play for easy access to catch-up TV
The Sharp 50DL2K also features Freeview Play. This combines catch-up TV, on-demand services and live television to make it easy to watch what you want, when you want. It's free from subscription and compatible with existing broadband services, while BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4 and Demand 5 are available without having to open specific apps, giving effortless scroll-back TV (requires broadband Internet connection with a minimum speed of 2Mbps).

Top spec connectivity
Featuring four HDMI sockets, the Sharp 50DL2K has got you fully connected. Two of the sockets are side-mounted – ideal for easily accessing when connecting your games consoles or other temporarily connected device. There are also twin USB sockets and the further bonus of a Micro SD card reader – perfect for viewing photos from your digital camera. For older devices, there’s a component interface. A headphone socket for private listening is also standard. Factor in the optical connection for a soundbar/base and it’s clear this Sharp TV leads the field for connectivity.

    Is this any good ?
    Loopthrough2's avatar
Yes it is good. Sharp LCD TVs always were as they are the LCD innovator, having made the first ever LCD TV in 1988 and won a Nobel prize or something similar for it. However, the Sharp EQ3 is their real premium TV and may well be discounted on BF or Prime Day 2.

It's a one year guarantee, not the normal six from RS. Standard Vestel I guess. Good for the price however. (edited)
    Loopthrough2's avatar
It’s NOT a Vestel. There are no Sharp Vestel TVs. It’s made by Sharp Corporation (Japan, part owned by Taiwan Foxconn).

Richer never offer the 6 year guarantee on mega deals like this. It wouldn’t be viable as the extended guarantee is essentially subsidised insurance. It doesn’t reflect the quality of the product.

Good find, for the money this is great

The TV isnt made by Sharp - Sharp do not make TVs for Europe, and the name was bought by UMC of Slovakia in 2016, who stick Sharp, JMB, Technika, UMC, Alba, Bush and Blaupunkt badges on their various models.

However, they arent Vestel, and Ive not read anything bad about them - it's just a heads up (edited)

I’m afraid your information is about 4 years out of date. Sharp Corporation of Japan (along with new co-owner Foxconn of Taiwan) bought their company and factories back and closed UMC down in 2019.

As such they no longer manufacture TVs for anyone else and are returning the Sharp TV and microwave brand to its original top tier status. (edited)

So if this tv stopped getting updates after a year or so, would it mean that eventually the apps wouldn't work anymore? Resulting in almost a "bricked" smart TV? Lol

I could just plug in a media box and use it as a decent TV screen right?
    Tim2011's avatar
Correct, although it's unlikely most the main apps will not work in a year's time, but yes you could just plug in a £20 Roku stick or similar.

You could also continue to use it to watch Freeview as well of course.

    Insane for the money, heat

    Thanks for posting.

Excellent deal. Picked ours up yesterday for the family room and set up today. The picture and sound quality are superb. (Better than our old Panasonic Ambilight which died recently).

I managed to get it for £219. They applied the additional £10 off code I got for signing up to be a VIP member when I didn't even ask! Just showed the email as proof of free VIP membership.

I was also able to call and reserve one over the phone so they'll keep it for you until the end of the day so worth a ring around if you really want one. (edited)

Can you confirm if its a 5 or 6 year warranty? Is it actually just the 1 year?!

An amazing TV! After having to suffer through all the Chinese brand listings on this site, its rare to see such phenomenal value for money from a known Japanese brand. Some say parts are made in China...yeah that may be...but Sharp is quality!

For price to quality this is about right. Not had the best of experiences with Vestel sets so tend to spend a little more for a tlc or hisense.
    Loopthrough2's avatar
Well it’s not a Vestel. Hisense are OK, but be realistic with any cheap Chinese TV like that. If you must buy Hisense it only makes sense to buy upper models.

It's a cracker price for the technology. Personally I would ignore all the SMART features and use it as a monitor or a single channel TV - trying to navigate through the interface would be a real test of patience! Use an external device for the SMART features and TV stations and you'll be fine.

Bought one and got it set up. Spot on for a bedroom TV - picture and sound are fine and voice control via Google is ok. Shame it won't connect to Echo devices.

Legs are wide spaced, so had to buy a stand.

Interestingly, the RS store refused to give me the £10 new vip discount. (edited)
    prestwichian's avatar
Also refused the £10. Poor they're seeming to give the extra discount depending upon the store you buy from.

I just got the 32 inch Sharp TV also on in-store offer at Richer Sounds and need to return it tomorrow. TV turns on when it feels like it, no noise and remote won't pair. Would avoid personally
    LOUGHBORO.GUY's avatar
Don’t get the 32 inch LG at richer sounds that’s got no 6 year warranty just a year
  14. James_Harking's avatar
Does anyone know if this is a VA or IPS panel? There are limited details listed on the Sharp website
    Ukguy101's avatar
Even number so should be a VA panel.

Can this be combined with the new VIP customer £10 off offer?

Would normally never touch a TV without a 5yr+ warranty but this is so cheap!
    Yaj2's avatar
You can combine it with that offer, I just did that today and it worked

They also have Panasonic 50" for £399. Any thoughts on that, Are Panasonic good ? Panasonic TX50JX800B
Also Argos have Hitachi 50 Inch 50HK6200U, for 239£ ? (edited)
    Loopthrough2's avatar
Is that the JX800? About the same. All TVs around this price are about the same and using very similar parts. It’s like mobile phones at the same price class. Nobody has found some secret formula.

I've heard things about this TV, blacks and whites and all that.

    Is that right, aye?
  19. Kingsworth's avatar
Heh, not bad for a teenager or something. Wouldn't want this as your main TV that's for sure.
