I've heard of IPS, VA and OLED, never seen anything about an ADS panel before. Whats the difference?

Edit: here is the difference between IPS/ VA/ ADS panels if you can be bothered to watch it

IPS ADS and VA are lcd. IPs and ads are similar

    OLED is completely different technology

Panel makers offer different wide viewing angle panels like ADS, IPS, VA, and PLS panels. These panels extend the conventional displays from 170/160 to 178/178 degrees in LED TVs.

    IPS or In-Plane Switching
In this, the liquid crystals in the cells lie along the same plane always. They are parallel to the panel's plane always because of the transverse electric field. All the crystals of a cell rotate by 90 degrees when voltage is applied to the cell.

    ADS or Advanced Plane-to-Line Switching
The infrastructure of the ADS panel is the same as PLS or Plane-to-Line Switching. In this, the liquid crystals lie along the same plane always, like IPS displays.
ADS is different from IPS because it uses a longitudinal electric field and a transverse electric field for parallel liquid crystal movement.

Great price but this is an IPS panel for those that care about the technology as well as being the 2021 model

Not even IPS. ADS. It does have FALD, 120hz & hdmi 2.1 (edited)

I had one of these and was not impressed with the TV pic quality, so returned this a few days later

I have the 55 inch one, very good TV, found the settings on RTing, something like that. It's fantastic once configured. You must have had a faulty one. This is a really good price.

EPP will probably mean only 1 years warranty unfortunately
    sheffield788's avatar
I've purchased my Samsung TV 2 years ago via EPP. The warranty on T&C was listed as 1 year. However, on the picture of the product there was a label showing 5 years. I've registered it for 5 years and got confirmation the registration was accepted. Now...I can't tell if I need to access it Samsung will accept it, but you never know. (edited)

This will suffer from the horrible dimming. (edited)

Absolutely not, I have mine for over 8 Months now. Get the settings right and you will be blown away. Great TV from my experience.

Is this a good buy for a bright living room?
Looking to upgrade my parents old 37 inch Panasonic plasma that's about 15 years old.
Will be used mainly for general TV shows, soaps, occasional movies and sports like cricket and football all via sky.
    Leedsbash_Yorkshire's avatar
Yes, definitely. I have my brightness set to 27, goes to 40 or 50 max. Shun the light from window and no reflection at all. These are reputed for bright rooms.

Might be the cheapest 120Hz 65" TV so far? At least from the bigger brands. Looks like a great deal. Shame it only has a single 2.1 HDMI port though. (edited)

Great deal, been waiting for decent 65 incher to become available. I have the 75 inch version of this set and it's been brilliant over the past 18 months, as pleased with it as I am my c1 and sony a80 oled. Its used for a mix of movie and gaming, the extra brightness over oled is great for brighter day time viewing for living rooms.

I watched a couple of hours today on youtube QN85A vs C1 OLED, and still don’t know what is better, for mix of gaming PC, PS5 and netflix, I know LG OLED cost much more, but what’s your opinion?
  9. Ess_Emm's avatar
I cannot see this deal although I can see the 2023 q65c 65" for 600

What a low price for an amazing TV! I eventually bought a QN90B, but the QN85B was pretty amazing too and I actually tinkered a lot between the two to decide if to pay more for the QN90B.

And by the way, the cheapest I could then find the 65 inch with EPP was around £1000. So £700 now is just a steal.
    abc131313's avatar
    What a good question!

My worries too before buying, but still risked it and bought, because it was exactly the type of tv I needed.

So to answer your question: Samsung know they messed up.
Now the option to check and upgrade to the latest firmware is greyed out I am still at 1040, the one that came with.

Sometimes the option is not greyed out by the way, but when I checked then for firmware updates, it said I have 1040, the latest. So they block the firmware updates from the server. We're good.

Now speaking of the TV there are quite a few good things - just check the reviews, I agree with them after using it.

But. I came from a C7 OLED - burn in issues, panel replaced by LG after 4 years, all the OLED good stuff.

When buying the C7 I've just bought it and switched between factory options pre-set, chose the one I liked, all good, the image was perfect. I did fiddle a lot later to see what the TV can do, but it was perfect.

With the QN90B. Oh my God I had to fiddle with the image options for HOURS. not exagerating I can say I bought the TV on Saturday and only very late on Sunday I found the right image options to create what I liked. I also used the C7 side by side to help.

It is VERY DIFFICULT to make the image realistic but still bright like the mini led can be.

Eventually I did get there and I now have 4 custom pre-sets which I use depending on the content. The image is very impressive. Being bright really really makes a big difference. Tbh anything you watch and you have sunny views the image is more realistic and significantly better than my C7. The sun on the TV and sunny scenes can be bright to the level of slightly annoyingly bright - exactly like when you walk outside on a sunny day. Very realistic and thoroughly impressive.

Blooming - to be short: it's taken me about 2 weeks to get used to it and find it acceptable. But coming from an oled I think this is pretty good and it shows actually how good this tv is regarding blooming.
Blooming does show for example when you turn the volume up, around the graphic with the volume level. Or when you go in the menus and the lower bar rises on a black background. And that blooming is a bit annoying, showing a dirty, not acceptable to me at least.
But in real content, the blooming is significantly better for the eyes. It is almost non existend to be honest. And, coming from an OLED imagine fan (not of an oled burn in though), I can say I am impressed!
Example: I've watched the whole series of THE EXPANSE on Amazon. The outer space and the stars, the ships blasting through pitch black space, they are very difficult scenes for led/mini led TVs. But the blooming is so limited, to the point that it is close to non-existent. I did not want to watch any episode in the bedroom on the C7, but on the QN90B. I am very impressed!

By the way, I tested some LG QNED and SONY led and mini led TVs in the shops - the blooming was horrible. Sony's image seemed to be more realistic immediately. But I could not stand the blooming. A no go for me.

So unfortunately, who wants a very good LED TV without the blooming issue, there is only Samsung to go with. Specifically the Neo Qled lines with the VA panels.

QN85B was good, very close to the QN90B. The only notable difference was in worse blooming for the QN85B. The black bars were not as black either on the QN85B respect to the QN90B. But who is not as sensitive to blooming like an Oled fan like me, the QN85B is a cracking TV too.
The new QN90C now has the QN85B ADS panel with improvements in image processing.

I think the best buy for mini led in the last few years is either the QN90B or the QN85B.

    I hope this helps!

Ordered. Thanks for posting! Seems a great deal when you look at the cost of 65 inch sets.
    DealHunter666's avatar
No worries. Mine is arriving tomorrow as well. Hopefully the good things one reads about it are true and Eurovision will pop on it xD

Good luck in the soundbar hunt. I have a 6 year old Sony one that I picked up from JL for £100 with a sub-woofer when they were clearing stock and it is excellent.

If there are decent priced Sony options, would recommend checking them out if they still do them the same way. (edited)

Is there an option to buy this but place delivery in like a week or 2?
    Gambler's avatar
Yes there is, you can choose your delivery date.
  13. TM1233's avatar
Anyone know whether this is a short term promotion? I have to return my TCL TV to Costco for a refund tomorrow and I think I'll go for this instead!!
    norbert7455's avatar
Probably until stock last, could be few days could be a month, if money is not the problem you can buy it now with delivery in up to 2 weeks while you get sorted a refund
  14. Berbatov's avatar
Is there a 5 year warranty on these?

No buddy, 12 months. I took the punt at this price.

It is literally noted in the name of deal that it is through the EPP. Plenty of people including myself ordered the unit.

Buying this to replace my Panasonic OLED which recently died from a very expensive VR accident
Hope I wont be disappointed with the picture quality! (edited)
    rowly73's avatar
It's incredible. I'm very fussy and I was sure it would be going back, like some others I tried previously, but watching movies or sports it looks great. Upscaling works well, screen is very bright and punchy and blacks are inky. My mate saw it today, he has the Sony A80J oled He was genuinely surprised how good it was for the money. (edited)
  17. Soopz123's avatar
just took delivery of mine and wow! the quality of the picture is way better then my expectations. I have a lg c2 43 inch and a sony X90J and I would say it is definately at least on par with the sony, if not better and to my untrained eyes, looks just as good as the LG
    rowly73's avatar
I agree 💯. Definitely better than the £699 price tag suggests.
  18. ArunJ's avatar
Random Q. Is it worth cancelling my order of QN95B+frame at £1444, and just grabbing this for £699 instead?
(Im not fussed about the frame tbh so it's based on the 2 65", but at half the price, the saving will pay for a wall mount and towards a decent sound bar, so it's tempting if there's not much between the 2)

This will become the main TV in the house and fie the PS5, which will replace my 55" LGUH950V which had been great for the last few years, so hoping to see some improvement with a replacement tv. (edited)
    i_need_bargains's avatar
Yes you'll save money and improve on what you have.
  19. dealtime999's avatar
Could anyone who has received one please comment on the sound quality, is a soundbar essential with this or is it better than many reviews make out saying it has a very thin weedy sound? Thanks
    Gambler's avatar
I don't think the sound is that bad but I've bought a soundbar anyway. Unfortunately it has connection issues :/
  20. norbert7455's avatar
A bit random but I realised Samsung accepted my claim for extended 5 years warranty (they rejected it initially but it worked second time). I know it says EPP is excluded but if it came to repair after 12 months and I technically had confirmation for extended warranty - would it work? Cheers, there’s also option for 10 years burn in warranty although not sure if they will confirm it. Btw it’s great Tv
    i_need_bargains's avatar
They always ask for the invoice prior to any repair. I'm not sure if EPP is mentioned and even if not they might see the massive discount and realise that it was an EPP sale. I suppose it would be worth a try. (edited)

This is a no brainer. For this price it is great deal. I am waiting to buy another one, maybe the 65 0r 75 inch QN90B or QN95B. I missed a deal on the 75 inch QN90B recently, not knowing I had EEP access through work.
    karam94's avatar
I'm also in the market for a 65" QN90B. Missed the John Lewis deal with the 10% off + £100 gift card. Worried they're going to now be out of stock everywhere & the next model is so overpriced. (edited)
  22. norbert7455's avatar
The quality of this tv is amazing. I wasn’t sure about the whole IPS panel but everything, even black looks better then my 2019 VA Samsung tv, glad I went for this deal after all, just 2 years ago the RRP for 65” was near £2k (edited)

    rowly73's avatar
    You won't regret it.

One thing I would say it that you need to play with the setting to get it just as you like it. I'm still tinkering with it for certain scenes/films but I think I'm just about there for night viewing. Mostly I turned all all the processing. Happy to share my settings if needed. Happy watching
