Smart. Powerful. Helpful. Google’s more compact take on their acclaimed Pixel 6 is a serious piece of kit. The 6.1” OLED display, the 5G connectivity, the 12MP multi-lens camera, the fast-charging battery, the… we could go on. And it’s powered by the same brains as the Pixel 6 Pro (the Google Tensor chip, since you ask) for brilliantly fast performance. Plus, there’s no worries on the security front: fingerprint recognition will keep everything under lock and, well, scanner.

5G capability
Say bye-bye to buffering. The super-fast 5G ready connection zips through downloads at record pace. Stream, browse, and watch whatever you want, wherever you want. Waiting forever for your Instagram feed to load up will be a distant memory.

Rich, vivid, cinematic screen
This screen packs gorgeously lush visuals into your pocket. The 6.1-inch OLED display comes HDR-enabled and supports up to 60Hz refresh rate. Put in plain English (don’t worry, we had to look up half of that too), you’ll get rich, real-world colour and contrast, and smooooth scrolling on a clear, bright, cinema-aspect screen.

Super selfies
Fancy getting creative yourself? The camera not only gives you multiple lenses (so you can take loads of different shots that’ll all look ace), but you can record video in 4K with cool tech that’ll smooth out any shakiness.

Make photobombers disappear
Magic Eraser is a real game-changer. With a few taps, you can remove strangers and unwanted objects from pics. It’s never been easier to forget about your ex.

Dust, drop and splash resistant
Whether it’s a quick dip in the bath or just checking out the streets (literally), our phones go through a lot. Thankfully, the Pixel 6a safeguards you from any little oops, with IP67 water and dust resistance. The screen also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, so it’s tough, less prone to scratches, plus it’s resistant to those pesky fingerprints.

A battery for night, and day
Scroll, stream, and share to your heart's content knowing the Pixel 6a won’t run out before your train even arrives. Yep, its adaptive battery will keep going for around 24 hours (estimation based on regular use). When you do need a bit more juice, it's Fast Charging compatible, so don’t worry about being tied to an outlet for too long.

Simply touch to unlock
With the under-display fingerprint sensor, you can instantly log in to your apps and websites without compromising on security.

What is SIM free?
You'll receive an unlocked device, so there’s no requirement to commit to any network, leaving you free to decide which SIM card / network to use. This gives you the opportunity to find the most suitable plan, whether that’s contract or pay-as-you-go, throughout the lifetime of the phone.

The product description is pure marketing hype..... "it's Fast Charging compatible, so don’t worry about being tied to an outlet for too long."

This is awful and misleading information. They don't tell you the supplied 'fast' charger is only 18 watts and if you want 30 watts, you have to buy a separate charger for around £30. The second problem is that 18w is snails pace charging in a world where 60w is fast becoming standard and many phones have 80w upwards so even 30w doesn't cut it anymore......... it's well overdue that industry standards should dictate no one is allowed to describe anything below 60w as fast charging because currently, it's similar to car manufacturers/sellers describing a car as having four wheels and boasting about it!! I can't see from the terms whether a cracked phone is accepted if you choose faulty condition? If you choose working it states the screen can't be cracked but doesn't mention faulty terms. Seems a good deal if you own one of the listed phones but yes it's quite select.

Wow. This looks amazing. I have an old LG G5 Works fine but slight scratches on screen It says £14 fully working or £3 not. I'm happy to say not if I get a pixel 6a for £299 - £103 = £196! What's the catch?!! I wouldn't want to buy it for £300 and not get the money back. Is it 'guaranteed' if I follow the rules?! Was looking for a £100-£120 phone for my son but could just get this and one of us gets the old Mi 10t lite!

I ordered a Pixel 6a on Thursday last week for click and collect from a local Waitrose the following day.

On Saturday I filled in the claim form and sent an old Galaxy Ace4 phone in with a slight delamination to the screen so checked the faulty box.

I received an email yesterday to say it's been received and will be processed soon and then another email this morning to say the trade in has been accepted and a £101 would be transferred to my bank account after 5pm today.

    I'd say that's a pretty efficient process.

Same here. It's been a pleasantly easy experience.

Ordered phone on Thursday, arrived Friday. Put my details into the Square 1 Trade-in site that afternoon and received a returns bag and label from them on Saturday!

Sent them my old phone yesterday and they've processed it already, with £129 coming my way for a Pixel 3a.

I'm very happy with how this has gone.

I owed a Huawei P20 Pro, switched to Samsung S21 last year and regret it. Huaweis software optimalisation and Kirin processor are beasts. Battery life is still better than most phones' nowadays. If you want to swap this because you wanna feel much better performance in every scenarios that not gonna happen. Not with this Google phone but none of it. Of course 120 Hz screen is a good addition (not on pixel 6a) and if you play hardcore games a lot on your phone than yes you can feel the difference. But camerawise....I dont really think so. Everyday performance on P30 Pro is still as good as todays flagship phones.
Huawei introduced their own EROFS file system 3 years ago. This year Google with Android 13 copied them and provide the same. EROFS uses less ytorage space and gives faster access to files so all in all a much better system than previous versions. And Huawei created it 3 years ago. Just a small addition how Huawei led the market before US killed them..... (edited)

If you already have the 5t it's a side step. Pros are you'll be getting a brand new phone, better battery, better camera and updates till at least 2025.

If you are choosing between the two right now, Pixel without question as the 5t is EoL and isnt getting any more updates.

The company who deal with the John Lewis Trade in (Square1) appear to be a lot more realiable then (PCSwireless) who deal with Google trade in.

How is the £100 bonus paid? Is it cash also as the square1 t&c states it's paid into a bank account? Not sure if that's just the price for the old device or the bonus also

In case it helps others I messaged Square Trade asking if they would take a Nexus 5 32gb which isn't listed but a 16gb version is and also if they would accept a couple of other phones which are more valuable that some of the others they take and there response was.

Unfortunately, we only accept devices which are listed online.

So it looks like a no go and make sure your device is on the list.

Really silly question but... how does this work?

Do I buy the phone first, wait for it to arrive and then claim both cashbacks (trade in and extra £100) together (since I'll have the new 6a's IMEI at hand)?

Do I buy the phone while claiming the trade in cashback at the same time, and once I get my phone I claim the extra £100 with IMEI?

Do I trade in first as the trade is not cash but a voucher and after buying my phone with the voucher, I claim my extra £100 with the IMEI?

    Thanks for the help!

I bought this phone and traded in a pixel 3a with the Google offer. The company they've sub-contracted the "inspection" of the phones totally screwed me over, by refusing the trade-in based on "case broken" (it wasn't, the screen was cracked and I stated that at the valuation process), and the phone was also returned with no sim-tray. Google support have refused to take the matter any further, so I'll now never buy another Google product ever again.

Anyway .. that's my sad tale over ... my point being is that the people operating this trade-in may be very different, but I'd say if you base your decision of getting this phone based on getting the trade-in value then be prepared to not get what you expect. It's a risk I'll not take again. (edited)

I just received £105 trade in for a faulty OnePlus 3t. Just sat in a cupboard. I was a bit worried as my 48 hour royal mail tracked return parcel took 9 days from posting to be received. I received multiple automated messages during this process from Square1 saying we still haven't received your item. Then your offer has now expired. They still honoured it so very happy with the process.

Have you tried fixing it yourself? It's most likely a software fault, and less likely hardware-related - Apple store might fix it for you, but knowing them, they prolly hoodwink you into believing the latter.

Google "iphone 8 boot loop" and see whether you can fix it yourself.

Ordered this earlier from Google with an estimated £120 trade-in for an old broken screen iPhone 6

I just had a look at this because of the '£100 bonus' on top of the trade-in value and they're offering 'up to' £2 for a faulty iPhone 6, or £5 for fully working. LOL

So as others have said - check out the Google store (unless you prefer John Lewis for other reasons)

Seems to be much better going to Google Store directly - you get a lot more trade-in value. I've got a Pixel 4a so that's where I'm coming from, I think I'd get £149 from Google or £130 from JL even with the extra £100.

Has anyone started the trade in process and then spotted the Pixel 6 deal for £299 at Currys and had second thoughts?
Looking through the Ts and Cs what's to stop you returning the 6A for a refund if you haven't opened it yet?
I'm in this boat and undecided what to do as I think the Pixel 6 is worth the extra £100 over the 6A.
Just annoyed that the deals are changing so quickly ( A big change in prices within 48hrs )
    Korg7's avatar

£100 is still a fair bit of money, for marginal improvements in my eyes. I've been in the same boat, but ended up getting the 6a. The pixel 6 has better camera's on paper, but in comparison they are almost identical to the 6a. If you look at online reviews and comparisons, you genuinely cannot differentiate which camera is which, as they look so good. See for yourself. I was originally in the market for a Pixel 7 Pro on contract because of the cameras, but genuinely they all take as good pics as each other.

I've never used wireless charging in any of my phones, so not a big issue for me. The screen on the Pixel 6 is 30Hz extra, but not the full 120Hz. Not an issue with me, as I can't tell the difference unless it was 120Hz. The screen is ever so slightly taller, but it's unnoticeable meaning it's difficult to 1 hand the phone like the 6a. The 6a has better battery life, and has a better sensor. This is expected, as the 6a is only a few months old, but the 6 was released in 2021. 6a does better in benchmarks

I've ended up keeping my 6a personally. I like 1 handing the phone in bed, and it's much lighter than the Pixel 6. The camera's pretty much produce the same image. I was looking at a review between the pixel 6 pro vs 6a and the reviewer said they were identical in image output with the exception of the telephoto lens. If you go on the curry's website and look at reviews, the two negs most people are citing are battery drain and a very temperamental finger print sensor. I can't afford a phone with bad battery (that's one of the main reasons why I'm upgrading in the first place) so I've stuck with the 6a.

The Pixel 4a 5G comes up if you search for it rather than clicking Google and only seeing the small list, however, they're quoting £35 for a 4a 5G that's a joke!
