Annoying the baby food is excluded. Thats now jumped in price

Formula is always excluded from promotions as by law, retailers cannot be seen to undermine breastfeeding.

Works really well if combining with Monese vouchers too! Cheers for the update OP (edited)

For non paid carers there is an ODE card that gives 2.5% cashback. It’s free for the first year then £2.99. It also gives cashback at lots of other retailers.

If you use a chase card to top it up then you also get an 1% cashback. (edited)
    Jonwillis's avatar
I can't see where unpaid carers get the card. I assumed this might mean those getting carers allowance would be able to sign up. Seems to be NHS staff with email addresses only.

    ---

Earning cashback with the Ode card has never been so simple. From doctors and nurses, to midwives and office staff, all healthcare workers and NHS staff can sign up.

    You can double dip this.

Buy asda gift cards on blc, which go via edenred, with a 3% discount then use these vouchers to pay for your shopping with 10% off at the till.

Ive had a few snarky comments from their check out staff about "wanting my cake and eating it" etc ive also had one person tell me i cant pay with gift vouchers if using blc discount which is nonsense.

I went to ASDA today as i had a voucher for free pull up pants from pampers. When the lady scanned the voucher it only took off £4.50 (the pack was £6). The voucher was exclusive to ASDA and even though the voucher had FREE written in big letters she refused to let me have them for free. She even asked her supervisor who said if it only takes off £4.50 then I would have to pay the difference. ASDA is full of nonsense when it comes to vouchers.

Oh my wife will be happy… she’s been quite agitated this last week when she’s used the card Instore to be told aggressively…

Can I get a discount for paying my taxes throughout COVID and not being furloughed?
My Doctors are running a diminished service and I've been waiting 3 and a half years for my surgery so forgive me if I don't join in the NHS worship.
    maf_hamid's avatar
Why is everyone under the assumption that this is only for doctors or NHS staff? Blue light applies to all emergency services, including police and fire service, armed forces etc. Not just NHS staff.

ASDA have now decided to extend the discount until 31st March 2023!

The discount is available in all Asda’s 635 stores across the UK and includes food and drink, George at Asda clothing and homeware, toys, gifts and optical. Blue Light card holders will receive the discount by presenting their own, valid, Blue Light card and ID to our colleagues at checkout.

Blue Light Card is a nationally recognised scheme which provides workers in the NHS, emergency services, social care sector and the armed forces with a range of discounts. Asda has extended its discount for card holders to acknowledge the amazing work they do each day to keep everyone safe.

Mohsin Issa, Asda’s co-owner, said: “We are delighted to have extended our partnership with the Blue Light Card into its third year until the end of March 2023. Our emergency services personnel do an incredible job and we’re happy to be able to continue this discount, along with our own Asda Rewards loyalty scheme and our everyday low prices, into the new year.”

Tom Dalby, CEO at Blue Light Card, said: “We’re incredibly proud of our partnership with ASDA and understand how much it means to our members, especially at this time of year. The exclusive 10% discount across food and soft drinks, George clothing and homeware, toys, gifts and optical helps to support families and individuals across the UK during what is a tough period for many and really highlights ASDA’s appreciation of NHS staff and other frontline workers.”

My wife used hers several months ago instore.A good idea to bring it to the attention of people that are unaware of the discount. It says it is until 31st December,so is it stopping after that does anyone know ?

it's a case of wait and see i'm afraid. it was suppose to finish at the end of this month but they have extended it, hence the new post. Sometimes the staff will know a couple of weeks in advance so always worth asking nearer the time.
  12. ibz100's avatar
Just a heads up that they reject digital ID. So you need a physical drivers license or whatever alongside the blue light card. Probably just Asda staff being jobsworths as usual.
    Cammio's avatar
I've shown just my banking app with my name on it and had it accepted, they didn't even ask for photo ID
  13. themachman's avatar
You can get discounts on their clothing and electrical lines too, in fact most thing in store.
Got £3.50 off my air fryer
  14. loser-baby's avatar
Anyone know if the discount applies to elecricals or PS5 stuff?
    Jonwillis's avatar
It's not listed as an exclusion

Discount is not valid on George.com, Asda Online Groceries, Asda Tyres, Fuel, all alcohol, Tobacco, Lottery products, Gift Vouchers & Cards, Infant/Formula Milk, Cash-back, Fireworks, Online Games & Instant Tickets, Photo Printing, Saver Stamps, Postage Stamps, ‘Top-Up’ Mobile Phone Cards, any other online Financial Services and Insurances, Pharmacy & separate concessions and all items within the Just Essentials by Asda and Smart Price ranges.
  15. jase.2's avatar
It’s also probably a reason why Asda have been slipping prices up so the rest of us pay for the blue light discount rather than it coming out of Asda’s profits ……
    SonicBoom's avatar
Yep, I stupidly thought they raised their prices due to Brexit, pandemic, Ukraine and cost of living crisis.

But you've cracked it, their prices have gone up to subsidise the 10% discount they're giving BLC holders.
  16. bruce287's avatar
I think all supermarkets should do it too not just Asda
    Galalad's avatar
I'd prefer a level playing field and scrap all discounts and concentrate on lower in prices for all. After all we're all cogs helping the machine turn.
  17. maccalen's avatar
So glad they're keeping this going.
    J1135's avatar
Yep its really helped, see below as well
  18. FellowPazzini's avatar
Great if you've got one but it's a shame they don't do it for the rest of us peasants. Nothing like a bit of positive job discrimination.

Whole thing is a scam, people who are admin workers and losely conected to front line services using these including retired people.
    Jayswa's avatar
What?! Are admin workers still not aiding in healthcare by doing their jobs? How foolish.
  20. Kammykay's avatar

  22. mikeyfive's avatar
I think it's ridiculous that a hospital manager, consultant or GP can in theory get 10% off their shopping, amongst other discounts.
NHS and other emergency service staff get paid a lot better than a lot of people with similar qualifications and responsibilities.
Do care home staff and other carers have access to a BLC?
    paulde2007's avatar
Whilst I see your point about home staff, don't squew the argument by arguing the 10% discount on top earners. There are many many staff in the nhs that are on low wages.

Speaking of the trust I work for, come and work for us. They're recruiting all the time.
  23. PhilAlexander's avatar
My blue light card in my wife name and wouldn't give me discount
    stackshelvesalldayerryday's avatar
It's not your blue light card then is it lol
  24. secsteel's avatar
My rewards app scans but doesn't add anything to my account it started when they removed the 1p discount on some accounts when it's scanned, and I'm fed up of waiting on the phone for 25 minutes for customer service's to answer where they can see my purchases so tell me they'll be added in the next 24 hours but they aren't.
    HUKDWatcher0309's avatar
    same here.

I've used this discount since months ago. Good discount.
  26. Ivan_K's avatar
I was a good customer of tesco but due to thier greedy pricing policy I start buying from Asda and offcourse BLC is another blessing for Asda customers.
    K0YS's avatar
is Tesco really more than Asda for the weekly shop?
i have both superstores local to me but frequent Tesco.
  27. rvp78's avatar
This offer has been running since May, it’s just been extended by 2 months
    slliw's avatar
And that alone deserves some heat
  28. DJ8's avatar
Blue light card is a joke, so many office staff can apply for it along with well-paid staff who don't need it.
    sheffield788's avatar
This is not a card for poor or ritch people. Neither a card for specific jobs. It is a card for specific organisations.
Supermarket workers get discounts in their shops. Nursery workers get discounts if they place their kids in nursery. I don't think the NHS workers get any discounts, certainly they pay for meds. Me, working for the local authority, I only have 10% off bus pass. But only if I buy a monthly pass. I don't travel so much by public transport, so I don't need a monthly pass.
Some office people at the hospital work weekends, nights, bank holidays, etc. (edited)
  29. RaMoS87's avatar
Tried using Blue Light in KFC yesterday and they said they no longer accept as “Covid is finished” WTH! Blue light app says expires end of Nov. No idea if anyone else has faced this?
    RaMoS87's avatar
“No longer have the button to press”
  30. Falappa09's avatar
Great news for all those ex services people who have now got much better paid jobs in private practice / civi street and continue to milk the BLC.
    blowbrown's avatar
You have to pay to renew the card every two years. If you are no longer eligible then you can’t apply.
  31. hunsbury's avatar
    Thank you Asda.
  32. Pikachu's avatar
Just recently I noticed they quietly excluded Just Essentials by Asda and Smart Price ranges.
    Channy-2020's avatar
Had no idea about this, thanks for sharing
  33. paulde2007's avatar
Why is it when some people get a discount, there are many people out there that moan at the fact that they can't get it.
  34. Eamer's avatar
Check your receipts by the way. Last two occasions I've been in the discounts has totalled to less than 5% off.
    sheffield788's avatar
That's because not all the products they sell qualify for BLC discount.
  35. Keep-it-Tea's avatar
Got to give it to the new owners.

Asda is so so much busier now than it used to be.

The choice, convenience stores, store refurbishments, blue light card disc and rewards app have meant i have spent so much there.

    In the last 6 months
My Asda spend is twice the average i used to spend there, my aldi shop is x3 what i used to spend.

Rarerly visit the other big supermarkets now
  36. Feverdawg's avatar
Anyone noticed that they dont get a full 10% discount? My shop just in was £79.42, but only £6.04 deducted? No booze, gift cards
I recall my last one being under 10% too

never mind - realised why - doesnt include Just Essentials range of items

Did notice however, I dont seem to have received any of my Asda rewards, for both this and last shop, despite having given them the barcode to scan, so no cashback on that (edited)
    Jonwillis's avatar
There are likely other restrictions too like baby milk as certain items by law cannot have discounts on them.
  37. franny05's avatar
