This one has G-Sync too. It's just using the open VESA standard to provide VRR instead of Nvidia's proprietary module. It doesn't have official 'G-Sync Compatible' certification, but plenty of people have confirmed it works fine on Reddit and elsewhere. Personally, I'd much rather have this one. The G-Sync module in the old model means you'll only ever get VRR with Nvidia cards. This one will provide it on Nvidia, AMD and Intel GPUs (and consoles too). As someone who's currently lumbered with a module-type G-Sync monitor that I can't quite justify upgrading yet, I won't make that mistake again (although in fairness I bought it long before Nvidia finally gave in and supported the VESA standard like everybody else). Good summary of what the updated version compared to the old version. Heat OP (edited)

Anyone know whether the subpixel layout is the same as the DW?
    Myriad's avatar
Yes afaik it affects all (qd)oleds, Windows needs to update to support the layout, some fixes are available but it will never be perfect. See Linus's vid on the Samsung G9 etc. I have the G9 and it's perfectly fine on MacBook. (edited)

Further 10% off or £100 if you have an Amex 😁.
So £736 or £752 using the student discount codes. Nice.

You can also get additional cash back via Lloyds Bank until tomorrow (I think) of £80, and TopCashBack will also give 5.95% back. (So £50 or so)

So with both of these that’s an extra £130 off so the total price should be in the region of £720

For anyone seeing the comments about the pixel substructure and worrying. Stop. It’s absolutely ridiculous. See images, one is my Dell 1440p IPS S2721DGF with standard RGB in vertical substructure, the other is the Alienware AW3423DWF with QD OLED triangle substructure.

As far as I’m concerned in an absolute none issue for text at a normal seating position.

Please bear in mind that my phone (iPhone 14 Pro) is an inch away from the screen in macro mode so you’ll see some weird rainbow stuff on both being picked up that you don’t see in person, but just showing the black text on a white background.

Some windows apps use grayscale clear type rendering which won’t show chromatic aberrations though.  It’s an inconsistent mess really at the moment.

So I ordered using the Dell platform's own student discount codes. I got it for this price. For some reason, I also got 2 other codes from Dell, for various xps laptops and this monitor. So if you message me quick?

Thank you OP - worried about the black bars while watching movies but I hope I get used to it

Is this monitor ok to use if you plan to use for office work? 7.5 hours work + 2-3 hour gaming a day?
Will I get screen burn? (edited)
    akhan_29's avatar
Been using it for just over a week now for both office and gaming. Long days. No issues to report.

Also have a LG Oled TV and that shows signs of image retention after a few minutes of static images on screen this monitor is completely different and shows nothing.

It does ask to do a pixel refresh every 4-5 hours, lasts about 5 mins but I let it run just to be safe.

I have been using VonHaus Single Arm Monitor Mount for 13-32” Screens with my AW3418DW for many years now and it does the job. It is recommended for up to 32" but I never had any issues with it.

I have mine fitted to one that looks the same by a brand named Bontec, so far so good and it seems to take the weight and work ok. A 34" ultrawide is around the same size as a 32" just different aspect so makes sense.

Anyone else had issues with the fan at the back? I’ve only used the monitor for a few hours but it sounds like an angle grinder started up behind the screen, so it’s going back to Dell. If the next one is the same I’ll be avoiding this screen, the fuzzy text is annoying enough, changing cleartype settings did nothing
    Britpix's avatar
Mine was completely silent. However, it had some bad scratches on so it's going back too. Hoping the replacement will be better.
  11. robjol's avatar
I assume people are starting to get these through, mine arrived a few days ago. Has anyone had issues with coil whine?

The display is utterly stunning, I cannot fault the image quality at all and I notice zero issues with text that other people have described, it really is a step up for gaming

However.. There is a horrible electronic type screech coming from the monitor at all times, similar reports of this on reddit. Does not appear to be a fan noise

Also, my box arrived fairly heavily damaged and the security tape on the box was cut, I'm almost certain dell sent me a return/refurb unit someone sent back likely due to the coil whine!

Spoke to dell and they're replacing without any argument

Fingers crossed the next panel is fine

    This monitor is awesome.

What do you think of the input lag? For me it's far too high for a gaming monitor. My Samsung qn94a TV has super low latency compared to this monitor. It's really noticeable when switching between the two.

Pre ordered this model and it was delivered last week. Absolutely insane monitor. I can never go back to a non-OLED non-ultrawide again (edited)

Exactly my experience, got the DW variant shortly after launch. Everyone who says to wait for next gen or model simply hasn't experienced this, it's worth it now. (edited)

My 38” Alienware ultrawide has a stuck pixel and Amazon are offering me a full refund - do I replace it or get this instead?

I work from home so the resolution/productivity is important, I’m not sure if the issues with text and lower res offsets the fact that it’s OLED enough..?
  19. Denziel07's avatar
Purchased this on the 16th and it arrived 21st. Brilliant monitor. Using it with a 3080 and was the first non dedicated G-Sync module display I've owned. Can't tell a single bit of difference. I tried and returned the AW3423DW variant before I purchased this and I'm keeping the F version.
    daddybr00's avatar
How come you returned the non-F variant but kept this one?

Really want this monitor but got commitments atm. Damn it!! Awesome price, awesome monitor, if you can afford it, you won’t regret it.

Is the HDR any good on this or not worth using?
    EmperorRosko's avatar
HDR seems great to me, but I’m also not crazy for HDR anyway. I’ve used OLED for the past 5 years and never thought the colours or contrast have really needed it?

Maybe it’s something that LED TVs benefit from but once you’ve tried OLED even in SDR, nothing compares at all. This screen is no different. I turned HDR off in windows as it was a bit too bright when I’m playing games in the dark. Using the Peak 1000 setting it was crazy bright when sitting half a metre away.

The whole text readability thing is difficult ... some say its exaggerated, some say its bad and not recommended for productivity work. Am i the only person that wants this for more then just game playing, my PC is used for 60% work, 25% movies and 15% gaming.
    Britpix's avatar
I'm in the same boat and realized that I'm mostly doing word documents/browsing. There is the 3-year burn-in cover but i guess it's designed to be used mostly as a gaming display.

Excellent price for excellent monitor! (If you know a student they may be able to get 10% off the original price via code direct from Dell (need a student email account to get this)).

Unidays code wouldn't work for me

I hope someone has a 27-32” version of this in 16:9 in the works. Love OLED but not a fan of ultra wide personally.

I would love to drop the cash on one of these right now, but without long term proven use that burn in won't trash the panel for office use its a pass

Does anyone have experience of using this or the previous model with a PS5 or Xbox Series X?

I know it will have black bars either side, but I'm interested to know if the HDR will function with the consoles properly or not.

    Thanks!
    PhoenixWright's avatar
I had the DW and yes HDR does function correctly with the PS5. If I remember correctly HDR, VRR, and 120Hz is supported at 1080p. At 1440p VRR is not supported.

I have £100 off £750 spend at Dell on Amex! So will come down to £736.10
    Snake45's avatar
Will this work with the Amex Basic Card you think?
  31. Ab101's avatar
Very tempting, wonder if upgrading from a DW3418DW would be an appreciable difference though....I guess with selling that monitor the upgrade to this would probably only cost £400 or so (man maths), dammit didn't need the temptation! (edited)
  32. Koyakami's avatar
The price difference to my knowledge is this model isn’t G-Sync Ultimate. The £1099 model is, this model is AMD Freesync.

    49117308_1.jpg

The GSync monitor can get TopCashback of 1% and with this discount code it would be £1011.07 (excluding cashback). (edited)

49117877-r6p1u.jpgStudent code knocks it down 10% works for Gsync model as well.

I had the original version but the drip from 4k was a little to much but it’s a very nice monitor but I will wait for a higher res version
    ksaleem's avatar
Is it really that bad? I am using a 4k 28 Samsung atm. Considering it but was worried about the same thing.
