EPP is available from perks at work and last month you could sign up with a personal email address so worth a look!

    Also :-)

In with my usual comment to answer heat pump / cost questions.

    Save me retyping it out

A++ (heat pump) Vs A+++ (heat pump)
A++ (heat pump) Vs A+ (heat pump)
B (condensor) Vs A+ (heat pump)

    hotukdeals.com/com…158

In summary, assuming 3 full loads a week (156 times a year). Scale this up/down with your own usage. Based on 34p/kWH

    A+++ is £19 cheaper than A++.
    A++ is £25 cheaper than A+.
    A+ is £120 cheaper than B.

Most heat pumps are A++, so save £145 Vs a condenser/vented model.

Note - The costs are based on the EU test, which is running the cotton mode, with a full load, water content at 60%, suitable ambient room temperature. Most washing machines will spin out more water, so savings likely to be less in real world use.

So long as you get a good warranty (5 year, as they are susceptible to breakdowns based on others hukd comments), heat pumps in the £400-650 range are worth it.

Heat pumps dont use your ambient temperature in the house to heat the clothes. It does have its own heater (mini compressor like fridge freezer) the reason for needing an ambient temperature is that below say 10C the heat in dryer will leak out via conduction faster than it can make it so it won't dry clothes. However some people have managed to run some heat pumps below this without an issue, but it's likely model dependant. so check the manual for the machine as to its required ambient temperature requirements (edited)

Mostly a gimmick I guess but if you like tech then it can remind you when its done, see the energy use and download different dryer settings

Design looks very similar to bosch, sharp, grundig etc, washable filter bottom left, top left water cartridge, controls centre, display right side heat added good price for 5 year full warranty (edited)

I'm going to give a word of caution, this is a good deal but Samsung products need a warranty as they're always broken.
Our Samsung Fridge, dead under 2 years, Samsung TV lines in the screen 1yr 1month, Samsung Microwave worked with the door open!
Obviously this can't be everything they make but quality control is lacking.
    p9dyl's avatar
    p9dyl
To counter this we have had our Samsung American fridge freezer for over 10 years and never had an issue apart from water dispenser pipe sometimes freezes and stops working for a day or 2.

Samsung microwave for 6 years never an issue and Samsung heat pump dryer for 1 year so far and it has been great and so energy efficient compared to our old condenser

Do these heat pump tumble dryers need anything special to install or is it a case of plug it in and that's it?

Plug and go. Although you can plumb in if you don’t want the faff of emptying the drawer.

What’s the real world verdict of condensers? Do they stay clothes as quickly as a vented or condenser drier?
    Jonwillis's avatar
    Jonwillis
Heat pumps are still condensers, they condensor water vapour into water. The difference is how they generate heat, they use the same mechanism as a fridge but the hot side is inside the machine that the air blows over.

They don't get as hot as those with electric heaters, so are gentle on clothes. But as they don't get as hot they can take longer to dry. In our experience with the Bosch the heat pump dries almost as fast as a normal condenser but at half the energy cost (see post above yours).
Just be aware most models of heat pumps need to be in the house, not an unheated garage etc.

Anyone tried heatpump tumble dryers in garages?
    Jonwillis's avatar
    Jonwillis
Lots of people have had success with them even in garages as cold as 10c. However others have had issues. It's hard to say if those that had issues just had really cold garages, but ideally you want the garage to be no lower than 12c.

You can convert a garage, or atleast add insulation and draft proofing. If you actively use the garage door, it's worth investing in a roller door as they work well to keep the heat in. But of course the walls, ceiling, roof can all leak heat.

Best thing to do is check the manual of the heat pump and see what the manual says about minimum ambient temperature. It might be some machines are better insulated than others so can work in colder environments. (edited)

Mine arrived this morning and it's fantastic. Just over 1hr for a half load of cottons. Lovely and dry and smelling so much nicer than the old top of the range LG condenser it replaced!

    Only used 0.563kwh as well!

Gutted that I paid more than this current price. Glad it comes with the 5 year warranty too, so that's me sorted for £120 per year!

condenser? no, its a heat pump dryer, they use less energy overall but take longer to dry clothes and you may need to check on them to see if the clothes are actually dry depending on manufacturer.

I've had the Smart model of this for 5 months now. It's incredible. Dries clothes really quickly and hardly noticed any difference to our electricity bills and it's used around 4 times per week.

can you put any clothes in these? or do you still have to go by the tumble dryer label?
    Jonwillis's avatar
    Jonwillis
Heat pumps do run at lower temperatures so are less likely to do damage. But it's still a tumble dryer, a rolling metal drum with heat. So delicate clothes probably still need hang drying.

Anyone who has one of these figured the best way to dry bedding? I always have to open up during a cycle to unwrap it all.

I have to tried cotton , bedding and mixed cycles.

Look for a tumble dryer that has a reverse tumble feature. So rather than rolling into a ball it alternates the direction from left spin to right spin. However not many machines offer this feature.

I was hoping to get the matching washing machine for my OCD but the deals on those aren't as good.

Also it isn't clear what the difference is with the higher up series models.

There isn't any additional features or capacity it seems?
    Bash_er's avatar
    Bash_er
From what I worked out there is very little difference between all of the a+++ ones.

The guts appear the same, you just get a different look, or some minor extra features such as smart things or air wash etc, which if you just want to thrown in your wet washing and press start they all appear to do the same.

In the end I opted for this one as it'll dry your clothes exactly the same as all the more expensive ones.

We’ve had a heat pump for around five years (AEG) and you can iron whenever it’s needed.  Likewise some things don’t need ironed at all and you can get the clothes as dry as you want.

You would need to check the product details but generally heat pumps wouldn’t work well under 10c.  I’m not sure how well it would work at 10c but some research needed on this one me thinks! (edited)
