Been watching the price on these for a long time and this is an incredibly good offer for a top end (£135 RRP!) ASICS waterproof trail runner with highly supportive Gel and FLYTEFOAM cushioning. The newer version of these retail at £145 (these are £135 RRP) and rarely drop much below 25%-35% off, so well over 60% off with free delivery is a very good saving.

By way of comparison with other ASICS trail runners if you're not too familiar with them all; the Gel Venture is the entry level option, Sonoma is a little ahead of that, then Trabuco is a big jump up ahead of both of those. There's non-waterproof versions of all of them which will be cheaper, so this is top on all fronts. There's also a Trabuco MAX which has a super thick outsole and speed laces but I don't think there's a waterproof version of those.

If you over-pronate these are also ideal as they have a DuoMax support system which gives more a stable ride and helps correct your stride. Lots more info in the product page.

Details

The GEL-TRABUCO™ 9 G-TX shoe has been re-engineered from top to bottom to assert itself as an all-around trail pioneer.

Rugged and comfortable are the two terms that best describe this trail running shoe. It's for the off-road runner seeking excellent durability, protection, and grip.

Additionally, the updated version of our trail shoe is complemented with a GORE-TEX™ upper to help keep feet dry in wet conditions.

The advanced comfort comes from the FLYTEFOAM™ midsole material that's coupled with GEL™ technology cushioning in the heel. Equipped with a DUOMAX™ support system that creates a more stable ride, this placement of foam on the medial side of the midsole offers a firmer density that keeps the foot from rotating inward too much (overpronation).

The lugged outsole pattern features ASICSGRIP™ rubber while incorporating an uphill and downhill lug pattern on the lateral and medial side of the shoe to improve traction on slippery terrain.

Additionally a rock protection plate helps the outsole stay flexible and shield the foot from abrupt terrain or trail debris.

The GEL-TRABUCO™ 9 G-TX shoe is designed to help you fly through the trails with advanced traction both uphill and downhill, while the responsive midsole foam creates better propulsion throughout your off-road recon.

Features

  • GORE-TEX™ upper helps repel water
  • GEL™ technology cushioning
  • FLYTEFOAM™ technology cushioning
  • ASICSGRIP™ outsole improves durability
  • DUOMAX™ technology improves stability
  • 3D-print overlays improve support

asics one sign up for free delivery.

then I add the trainers to basket
It will say discount code applied, but you’ll notice no discounts have been taken so what you need to do find a cheap item that it works with. I found a woman’s T-shirt for £4 brought the overall order down to £44 free delivery. Sign up to the newsletter and you can get an additional 10% off but I couldn’t find the right item to get both discounts to work, only wanted the free delivery63417-FDOaV.jpg

Surprised to see so many bad reviews on this model.
Gonna pass to save the hassle. Durability issues to say the least.

. You seem clued up on your shoes. I am a novice runner, and have been running on/off (on the treadmill) using the same pair of Nikes for a few years now. They are worn, so I've gone ahead and bought the Sonoma 5 as they were on deal, and I was looking for a decent outdoor walking shoe whilst in parks ect.

I've always bought off the shelf nikes ect, but someone advised me I should get my gait analysed (which I've not done). I think I may have overpronation, and the Sonoma 5 is neutral. Question is, can the Sonoma 5 trail shoe be also be used on the treadmill, and would a neutral shoe really affect me if I was a overpronator?

I'm not an expert though I'll try to help! I would get a separate pair for the treadmill that's not a trail pair personally, they'll be less efficient on the treadmill than a road pair. In terms of your gait, if you do overpronate then a neutral pair won't 'effect' you - you might just find that if you're overpronating a lot that a model with support for that serves you better than a neutral pair can. But generally neutral pairs are, well, neutral, so don't often make things worse. If on the other hand you were underpronating and bought a pair like this for overpronators - then it would certainly 'effect' you, yes, as it would exacerabte the problem rather than rectifying it.

My unqualified thoughts, someone might come along with better experience / advice, please do by all means if that's you!

Are these good to run on footpaths?
    david_brent's avatar

You can use them on pavements but if you're mostly doing running on pavements as opposed to trail/off-road then there'll be better options out there. These will cope fine, but won't be as efficient as road runners as it's not what they're specifically designed for.

    Are these true to size?
    david_brent's avatar
    Author
I bought a pair a month ago and found them to be true to size for me. If you're unsure, order two sizes and return the one you don't need for free. They don't do exchanges or price matching so if you need to change size at a later date you'll only be able to place a new order at whatever the price is then.

I've always used neutral running shoes, but I fancy these as a waterproof walking shoe. I want the cushioning, support, and weight that you get with good running shoes. Do you think that the fact that these are designed for over pronators will matter if only used for walking?
    finknottle's avatar
Look at the trail shoes and filter by pronation, there are neutral GTX shoes available for the same price. (edited)

Has anyone tried these and can compare against novablast 2 or 3?
    Frembrit's avatar
These are trail shoes, and good at being trail shoes. Horrible on pavements.

How do people find Ascis fit?
    Frembrit's avatar
True to size for me...been a size 7 for everything I buy for as long as I can remember. Have an old pair from 2001 and that's a size 7 too and fits fine. (edited)

Just to let you know I ordered 2 pairs of trainers a week ago from ASICS outlet and they still haven't been dispatched.
    IBSee's avatar
Yeah it's been like that recently, I've got 2 orders from nearly 2 weeks ago and one only dispatched yesterday and my other hasn't even been picked yet. Looks like they've been busy with the multiple sales they've had on recently.
  12. SuperSaintee's avatar
I ordered a pair of Sonoma a couple of days ago for the same price so this is a great deal. Worth noting though that these are designed for over-pronators - I'm on the other end of the scale as an under-pronator so the neutral Sonoma suits me better.
  13. Benny.Hills.Love.Child's avatar
Avoid, they will split at the lateral toe area.
    Fozzy06's avatar
If they do, I will return them 🏻

I got these last time on offer and they're a good fit and very comfortable. I use them for walking at a brisk pace rather than running.
    PaulCoops's avatar
I've just bought myself another pair to put under the bed. Too good not to at this price.

Can anyone comment on the arch support on these. I need something with good arch support. Like really god arch support. Tanks
  27. TomHolding's avatar
These say they're designed for Overpronation. After a quick Google I think I'm the opposite of that. Is that really going to matter? Will they still fit me well and feel comfortable to walk/run in?
    finknottle's avatar
If you are the opposite - yes it will matter. See earlier comments: hotukdeals.com/com…975

Lots of neutral shoes available in the sale, including the Sonoma GTX for the same price as these - just need to use the filters! But if you’re unsure of your gait and want to run regularly, go into a shoe shop and they can tell you.

I have had the Gel Sonoma 6 GTX and Gel Venture 7 WP plus various other non waterproof models for the whole family in the last few years. Asics have never disappointed me so far. I don't use them for running, just general wear.
  29. matlock67's avatar
I used the NHS discount option, you can register without any proof.

bought 2 pairs for £80 so as to not pay shipping.

    Thanks in advance
    Frembrit's avatar
Depends, where are you with your running? new to it or experienced and trying to find something new? do you know if you need support shoes for overpronation or neutral shoes?
  35. PonJaul76's avatar
Anyone got their trainers yet? A week and not even dispatched. Is this normal for the Asics site?
    Fozzy06's avatar
    I haven’t :/
  36. simba2585's avatar
mine just arrived. quality trainer....the gt1000 is still superior for comfort

gore tex takes longer to dry and less breathable
    colliwag's avatar
    Quite a negative outlook!
Alternative way of thinking is they keep your feet dry and you feet warm. I’m also not sure either
of your points are valid in my experience.
But anyway, if you really care about breathabilty and quick dry and you don’t think gore tex shoes offer this then don’t buy them. In fact don’t even bother wasting your time on this deal.
