But if the deal is not good enough, or you want to see what else you can get, you put in a cancellation then and there. Give them the 30 days notice and you’ll get a date your services will end.
It’s then a waiting game for the outbound retentions team to call you, you can’t call them, they might call soon, they might wait until day 29, they might never call as you’ve set your preferences to no marketing calls etc
Last time I did it I missed two calls from them around a week before cancellation and then finally got talking to them 2 days before my end date. New contract was £20+ cheaper, and included Netflix and 2 updated 360 boxes. I’m fairly close to this dance again as my contract ends in June and I haven’t had a price increase notification yet.
I spoke to them on WhatsApp but they was in no way interested in offering me a deal, the best they said they could do is "offer me a discount to bring the price down to £28pm until your contract ends in August this year".
I was half tempted, but I figured that this would be 6 months away, so if I negotiate something now at least I'll save 6 months on my new contract agreement.
I'll away the next phone contact... But as what happened last time on the phone. They basically know Virgin Media in my area is top dog with zero competition.
OpenReach only offer 60-70mb, so Virgin are in no way inclined to offer me a brilliant deal because they know I'll have no choice. Even the new customer deals with Virgin aren't so good this week
So, it seems Virgin Media's key motivation is profits (as with any business), but as long as the area you're in has a sufficient enough users, they don't mind dropping some if it means they're less likely to over subscribe the aera. This means they don't have to pay additional costs to fulfil a network upgrade. A lesser of two evils for them, in doing so they're retaining more profits.
I think Virgin Media know their time is coming to an end, as you said as Top Dog.
As more cities sign up to locally owned fibre connections, with the government run gigabit voucher now providing up to £4,500 to help install gigabit speeds with some areas getting up to £7,000 via gigabitvoucher.culture.gov.uk
As part of the government's plan to get everyone gigabit full fibre to the home, Ofcom has said they expects to pass the 50% threshold in March, and to reach more than 80% by the end of 2025.
Just five years ago only 6% of homes could get full fibre. Now cities are providing help and funding to local businesses, meaning last year in September that had reached 42%.
Hopefully your area is close to being completed.
They put me on 264Mb for 18 months for £26/month.
Not the cheapest it seems reading in here but can’t grumble at speed increase and cheaper price. (edited)
Do you have sports and movies as well?
Even then its too much, time to call and demand better deal.
If they don't offer anything, put in cancellation and wait for outbound retention to call you.
They offered me, for a one time deal that's normally £57 but they can do it for me at just £43 for 18 month contract.
It includes phoneline with talk any number at the weekends starting 0, 1, 2 and includes Virgin Mobile numbers and a "full fibre" broadband bundle M125 that has download speeds of 132mbps and a upload of 20mbps.
I'm currently paying £37 for just m200 bb no phone or tv. Why can't they just charge a fixed rate to everyone regardless, instead of this variable price and mid contract price hikes. Along with all the contract renegotiation every time.
Only £25 a month I was with virgin media for around 10 years very unstable broadband
I won’t go back if it was free
We can't get virgin in our area though and last time I changed to Plusnet several years ago the service didn't seem as stable (edited)
When I phone the automated system offered me a £3.50 discount till end of my contract. I declined and went with cancellation option. Hopefully will get a better deal from outbound retention team.
I want a faster speed for the same or lower price ideally. Otherwise I'll remove the cancellation and ask for the £3.50 discount till June 2023. Then try and get a better deal at contract renewal time 😬
