Consider cost per year of useful life, and money lost from not waiting more vs use lost through not owning the card while waiting.
Nvidia, with its tiny VRAM, high cost, and poor useful life (when Nvidia nerfs a generation when two later ones have released), loses this test almost every time. AMD tends to do very much better. At least the 6800XT will have a long useful life- in a primary system at 1440P, then maybe a secondary system for a less demanding user. This GPU should be pushed to below 400 by the end of the year, maybe a weaker 6800 might be available for 350 then, but the 16GB is going to keep these cards desirable over Nvidia's 12 and 8GB new and last gen 'competition', so I'd see 400 as the bottom.
Which means a little more than 100 quid to pay for having this level of performance now over waiting maybe 9 months. Which is a relatively minor 'risk' payment.
Of course, if one is looking to 'upgrade' from a half decent card, one has the option to work to keep the old card going (tweaking those graphic options, and waiting for game patches that 'improve' performance), gritting one's teeth and waiting for the 2024 vintage. 16GB will be a base level of VRAM from even Nvidia next gen for any card worth owning, but they'll still want 400+ and probably 450+ for a 60Hz 1440p card.
If memory serves, the 5700XT launched at 320-350, as a 1440p 60Hz GPU, and that had 8GB- so you see where 400+ comes from even with so-called 'normalisation' of mid-end pricing in 2024, when inflation is included.
