Had ours for around 4 years. Use it everyday. we had a problem once where the wife locked it but only one of the spindles went into the hole. Found their email on the internet and they phoned us within 30 minutes. They told us how to fix it and stayed on the phone all the time and walked us through it. Brilliant after sales service.

Had one for two years, it’s superb and well made 🏻

I have one of these and recommended it to a few friends. It's such a simple idea but so effective. Not only does it prevent the handles from being turned, but also holds the doors shut.

Obviously doesn't stop someone from smashing glass or ripping the doors off its hinges but that isn't the purpose of this device. Best advice I ever got was from a retired Joiner who told me "At the end of the day, if they really wanna get in, they'll get in. The key is to make it so much of an effort that they can't be bothered".

I rarely see em below £50, so heat added.

Same with a decent burglar alarm...it won't stop them getting in...but it might make them burgle your neighbours instead of yours...

Get yourself an ADT bell box off eBay and jobs a good un...

Or one of these (or similar - wrapped around the handles inside the house) helps and is a bit cheaper - the downside to this is it means the handles can still be snapped - BUT the door will NOT be able to be opened even if they do that - and as a visual deterrent any would be burglar would spot this.

Of course and real bad guy would just pick up that big rock from your garden and smash the glass.

Sadly this won’t work if the door has standard spindles, which most do. Once the intruder breaks the external lock and pulls the spindles out then internal handles will just drop down and the chain will fall off.

The pat lock includes upgraded spindles which stop this happening (edited)

We have this and it’s a great little security measure. Includes a set of stickers to put on the window and also has a big yellow ‘secured by Patlock’ logo facing outside. Having seen how easy it is for a burglar to snap a lock on UPVC French doors, the Patlock is a must.

We also have window alarms that detect vibrations in the event of attempted glass smash

Bit confused, so it goes on the inside or outside of the door?
    luv_a_deal's avatar
Inside. Each handle is hollow and so they slide over the door handles and push together, locking the handles in position. Very easy to use

What can one do if only one of the doors has a handle?
    davew2011's avatar
Use a sash guard instead , much less ugly and annoying (if you use the door a lot)

If your house is only a couple of years old this is PROBABLY a waste of money, as building regulations document Q would require all windows and doors to have a laminated outer pane, whilst not impossible to break will hinder any would be thief for at least 30mins! (edited)

I'm not sure what I'm missing here but your comment is suggesting that newer houses don't need these as the glass is laminated?

This doesn't prevent people from breaking the glass, it prevents people from gaining entry by snapping the locks (as well as other methods) as even if they had the key, for example, this prevents either handle moving, so you couldn't open the door anyway.

If you had laminated glass, but a patio door with vulnerable locks, this would help.

Bought one 3 years ago when I moved in to my house. Gives me so much more confidence. Highly recommend it.

This is awesome. I paid £50 a few years ago. Such a simple idea but works really well.
Small children can’t easily undo it either so it is a good deterrent for them.
The handles do have a small rubber type insert to stop rattling or the door handles being scratched. I did have one fall out once but a dab of superglue stopped it reoccurring.

I can vouch for these - had two sets for the last five years. Easy to put on and take off and very secure. Like any lock I'm sure with persistence and brute force someone could break it but it would at least slow down someone determined to break in and deter a casual/opportunist thief.

@leesafc You're my hero. Was just about to buy one of these and then this popped up on my feed. Easy money saving, thanks a lot!

    looking at the video
All the Burglar has to do is smash the glass and then presses the release button to open the lock ,would a key lock not be better ? or am i missing something obvious ?
    CatsWithThumbs's avatar
If they've already smashed the glass then to be honest they're already in whether they release this or not

I've been looking at various french door locks for a while and these seem to have decent reviews. The best price I'd found previously was around £48 on Amazon so I was really happy with this price via the neighborhood watch website.

Is there another site for getting this lock then? I've looked on a Neighbourhood Watch sure but not found this item.
    :/

Very good price.... it also comes with the spindles which does not take much skill to change

Bought for £48 from Amazon a couple of weeks so good deal. Was worried it would be clunky and obtrusive but got used to it quickly and blends in.

As above, won't stop someone determined but if it makes our house less attractive to the opportunist, money well spent.

Thanks OP. Never heard of these before, looks great and reviews on Amazon are excellent too. Just purchased

Had some of these for a few years now too. Very happy with them - neater than alternative options, and importantly (for us anyway) very easy to use. Ours came with anti tamper spindles, which aren't strictly necessary to install to use, but pretty easy to put in with some basic DIY skills for a bit of extra security.

Would recommend to anyone considering them

I just bought two, one for a patio and one for a conservatory. As someone said, it's a deterrent, and if it means an extra few minutes trying to get in whilst I rush for a self-defence tool

    Just ordered ... Thanks

Thanks... I've been eying this on the rain forest for a while now but never bit the bulliet.. but I'm travelling a lot this year so I was going to get one anyway, now I got it for less...

This the one on Dragon's Den (about 5 years ago)... where there was an issue around "deliberate overpricing of the product on ‘Patlock’s’ website?" (edited)

    Or buy a cheap D lock .

Doesn’t get cheaper than this, paid the same in September last year

We use these they're great. Excellent price, I would also highly recommend x

Not wanting to worry folk, but they use centre punch's on the safety glass to scatter it and push it in - they don't waste time with locks nowadays.

    99hawkeye99's avatar
But only a single pane, rather than a double glazed unit which helps create resistance due to internal pressure
  30. davew2011's avatar
I don’t really see how these differ to a sash block toolstation.com/sas….ds

other than them locking… but as they’re on the inside burglars  can’t pick the lock from the outside without smashing the window…in which case they’re in anyway. They’re also much uglier/less discreet than blocks.
if you have a modern multi locking door with anti snap and bump cylinders - does even it add that much more security ? (edited)
