1:10 RC Plasma Edge II GunMet TT-02B
The Tamiya TT-02B chassis is a variant of the innovative TT-02 on-road 4WD chassis. This version has a pre-painted body in gun metal (PS-23). The Plasma Edge is the second model with this chassis configuration.
Thanks to its simple construction and maintenance-friendly solutions, the chassis is also suitable for beginners. The battery placed longitudinal in the tub frame chassis and the low-seated RC components ensure a low centre of gravity. Independent suspension and double control arms, oil pressure shock absorbers, four-wheel drive and the high-grip spike tyres provide excellent traction. Front and rear axle are equipped with sealed bevel wheel differentials. The electric motor type 540 RS Torque Tuned ensures a lot of power in the terrain.
With optional tuning parts, the chassis can be quickly tuned to the race buggy. The chassis base is extra smooth and the battery compartment holds all standard battery types. The robust polycarbonate body can withstand the harsh off-road conditions and is very light.
Required accessories: drive and transmitter batteries with charger, RC system with servo Technical details: TT-02B bath frame chassis - length: 370 mm, width: 250 mm, height: 160 mm, wheelbase: 266 mm, robust. detailed PolyCarbonate body, already painted in PS-23 gun metal - 4WD four-wheel drive - central drive shaft - cone differential v/h with four bevel wheels - double control arm v/h - front track adjustable - independent suspension - oil pressure shock absorber - electronic control TBLE-02S brushless/brushed (not LiPo. capable) – electric motor type 540RS torque tuned with air cooling – battery slot suitable for all battery types – pin spike tyres.

Box contents: assembly kit model with detailed illustrated assembly instructions (English language not guaranteed), 540 torque tuned electric motor, travel controller.

Warning: before you use the assembly beginside, you should have read and understood all instructions. If a child assembles the model, a supervising adult should also have read the building instructions. When assembling the kit, tools including knives are used. Separate caution should be taken to avoid injury. If there are difficulties in assembly, ask an adult who monitors the work or a model maker with RC experience or specialist retailer.
Use tools only for purpose. If used correctly, there is a risk of injury.

Bear in mind that you still need to buy a battery, a charger and radio kit.
    Unless you already have them.

You also need to factor in replacing parts when you inevitably crash them (or your children do). I loved having one growing up. Can’t wait to get my son one when he is a bit older.

If you want a much more capable car that won't break at the first sight of a kerb, doesn't require hop ups from AliExpress and comes with the battery/charger and rc gear take a look at the Traxxas or Arrma budget range.

They run around £200 from a local shop but the money and time you save not constantly fixing parts and waiting for replacements to arrive is priceless.

Also being able to take the car out and not worry about breaking a suspension arm is worth it alone.

A brushed motor Traxxas Rustler or Slash, or Arrma Senton are far far superior cars that can take a real beating. They also both hugely upgradeable if you so wish and local model stores will stock parts for these cars in surplus.

    Thank you, great info

To be honest, unless you're getting it for nostalgia reasons (Tamiya) you're better off getting a WLToys model off AliExpress, about the same price but come with all the radio and batteries etc.

Good shout, we got an IC one from aliexpress for about £200 ready to go - its fantastic

This is expensive for what you get. You are missing all radio gear and batteries. For a starter try the tamiya tl-01 b  it’s cheaper but you can get all the kit for less than this. Plenty of hop ops available and cheap. You can get a brushless motor for it too than am the big standard 540 here.

Most local hobby shops will match this price. Support your local shops who some also run race tracks to keep the sport going

As a total beginner to this...I love the idea of having a proper RC car. Can anyone please recommend a radio kit and battery that will work well with this. Thanks

It's a long time since I had these things, and I used to race them. Depending on your plans, you may want to pop to a local model shop for advice.

Ha yes. It was Acoms or Futaba, 540s, Demon motors and split crystals in my day

I got a very similar ready made tamiya one and found it quite poor. It broke very quickly and the battery last about 10 minutes. For nearly £100 it was rubbish.

We already had a maverick quantum xt flux with lipo batteries which cost probably £150 more but the difference was night and day.

Your better of with a Wltoys 124019 cheap and fast.
    hawksface's avatar
Been so tempted by something like this, the 124017 v2 is the updated version (numbering doesn't make much sense), so I'm leaning towards getting one of those

I got out my old Tamiya hornet from 30 years ago to show my boy. Futaba remote was a bit temperamental from storage and had to get a battery from eBay. Surprised how fast it was. Ten minutes run time before the plastic on the suspension gave out. Thirty years in storage probably not good for it. Could probably find a replacement part but it might be time for the scrap and replace with a WL toys one. Had such fun with it in my childhood though so certainly got my monies worth.
