I've been on this ship and cruise last year.

It's OK but we only managed to dock at one of the ports listed on the itinerary.
Apparently this is the norm for this ship as it is so large it can't dock at many ports if there is wind.
I'm pretty certain it has never managed to dock at Olden.

We did dock at alternate ports for two of the destinations one being Flam so that was OK but we had extra sea day for other. I've read of occasions where the ship hasn't docked all week due to bad weather.

Also, the ship itself is not great in my opinion. Do not under any circumstances get a balcony cabin on deck 8 as this is the promenade deck and people will be walking past and looking into your balcony/cabin all day and night.

We had a balcony higher up but even this was poor as the promenade deck has loads of hot tubs that are really noisy and you can here every word people are saying. Also, a lot of people seem to think it is OK having a baby in nappies sat in a hot tub for prolonged periods. Bizarre.

I've been on quite a few P&O cruise ships and I wouldn't go on this or its sister ship as they have too many passengers but don't have all the extras you would expect on a ship this size compared to Celebrity etc.

It definitely has docked in olden and does so frequently. We docked in olden last September during a week of awful weather, we ended up in Bergen (maiden visit for the ship and a record broken when passing under the bridge with minimal clearance) due to the weather so missed haugesund and traveled back to Southampton in a force 10. Great cruise and great ship. Booked for a 2 week Med this year on her sister ship Arvia. (edited)

Tempted as I've never been on a cruise before.
Is it easy to find parking in Southampton and also what extras I will need e.g. drinks, Internet etc?
Noticed they offer parking but it's an extra £400+ in a package which seems a lot

If you can just do it. Fjords are one of the nicest most scenic places to go. Dont do the Select fare with parking. Usually a rip off. Use the council car park or go by train if you have a railcard. Cheap open return at weekends. We usually use Airlynx parking but so expensive now. £42 for 2 people return by train from where we are (160 miles return). Single suitcase and a tuxedo carrier if I can be bothered this time.

Wanted to go on a cruise like this for SO long! But I have Eurovision tickets so will miss out. Fingers crossed something else comes up, even for 2024!

done 2 week cruise on this ship last October, hated the ship, prom deck layout is a mess , noisy cabins deck 5, thought the ceiling was about to collapse, had to move twice.
design team for this ship needs sacking just for the
    balcony cabins deck 8 alone

We are booked on this already.

Any tips for parking for the week please?

We have a 4 hour drive to get to Southampton so are undecided if it's best to stay over the night before.

I'm leaning towards a council multistorey car park with a taxi rank outside, but it very much depends on what time we board. That info should be available after today, as it's 3 weeks away
    TristanDeCoonha's avatar
You might just as well park on a public street under a street lamp, and book a taxi in. At least people will hear the alarm if someone tries the car at night. Which council carpark were you thinking of? I thought they were all one day parking.
    Edit.
It would appear that West Quay multi storey does do long stay. But they merely quote day rates and lock down times. You just pay on exit. This park is recommended on Emma Cruises (edited)

How can 4 adults fit into a queen size bed?

Good question, I think the rooms for 4 are larger than the rooms for 2, with more beds. However, seascanner don't update.

    Found this on their website:

Great deal for a family, and surprisingly not that bad for a family or 4, lay out is 2 sets of bunks, we've done a few of these, well worth the money

Been on the Virtuosa twice, first time was amazing but the second wasn't as good as I previously remembered it. Looking at going on Iona at some point, but was wondering who has been on both could give some opinions on what it is like?

I enjoyed how laid back and relaxing MSC were (especially when it came to dress codes) but from what I have seen about other cruise lines, P&O included, formal attire is to be expected during dinners? Each to their own, but that would be a turn-off for me If that truly is the case, then I guess I will just have to make my way onto diamond status on MSC

We cruised on the Arvia, sister ship, in January. Allocated deck 8, the promenade. Me personally, I didn't mind it all. I love having a natter. Plenty of new victims, to chat to. On a daily basis.

You should check what P&O say. Seascanner say between 0-17 for children.

They have a kids club for 2-17 year olds, and that fits in this, but there are some guidelines that may apply for the Iona but not other ships. (edited)

If you've always fancied cruising round the fjords do it as soon as you can. There is talk the cruise ships will soon be banned from visiting most of the ports in Norway due to enviroment concerns

Nice! Never been on the cruise but is it docking somewhere so u have for example half day u can go and walk in the city? Which obviously would mean some ppl would need visa (like non european)
    chrisjlocke's avatar
You can, but they don't always just let you run off. Some stops are 'excursion only' so you're only allowed off if there is an excursion booked. Other times you're so far out from the city (couple of miles) by the time you walk there, you find a coffee place, grab a coffee, queue with 5374658736583 other people doing the same thing, then have to walk back. Not fun.

whats the wifi like? good enough to work from laptop?

My experience on cruise ships, bloody expensive and not particularly fast!
Was on royal Caribbean couple years ago and was about £25 a day for WiFi on one device only.
I’m booked onto this ship in October going to the canaries and the bad reviews are worrying me now
