I always fit RCD ones, even though technically you don't need to if you have a modern consumer unit with 30mA RCD protection. Advantage is if something outdoors trips, then it usually won't take out everything else in your house at the same time - eg Fridge Freezer if you're away on holiday!

I'll be using this mainly for the lawnmower and the occasional radio while in the garden. Wouldn't leave anything plugged in it

£8.99 at screwfix if that's easier for an 11p difference.

I reckon you might as well spend £24.09 on the same thing with an rcd. Peace of mind for outside hey?
Im not a sparky though. Open to advice.

I had an RCD plug for my garden tools, and the house would trip before the RCD...

Bought this from screw fix. I wouldnt recommend it, the design is poor and is very difficult to open and close.

Have this. The clips that close the lids are extremely fragile and will break if you look at it wrong.

Bought one of these last time they were on offer about two years ago.
Still haven't got around to installing it.

These are a real pain to open and close, especially with a cable in situ

A weatherproof box is usually more practical because a lot of things you'll want to put outside such as cameras will need power supplies

Any recommendations for a smart outdoor socket?

I use BG smart sockets in the house that work great on their app. This is the outside version of it

Had one of these for many years and it’s still going strong. I don’t understand the comments about it being difficult to open and shut because I find it really straightforward even if you have something plugged in. Recommend that you take your time fitting it and use silicon around any possible water ingress points. I then put a bead of clear silicon around the whole unit where it meets the wall and have never had any problems. (edited)
