As many have said there is certainly a program on updates sent by HP that renders printers that are more than two years old to be useless.

I wonder how legal that is? Can they legally send out a code to render your private device unserviceable? I think they would be on very thin ice if you took them to the small claims court. The issue I guess though would be proving that HP actually sent out this code to brick your device. If you could, I think that that could effectively be classed as 'criminal damage', it's your property that you paid for and now own. It's not rented off HP or loaned by them. If a class action was brought against them and they were found to have breached UK law, it could be extremely expensive for them.

To add though, I am no legal expert but have had numerous legal disputes in the past that have been resolved by the other party settling before they have gone to court.

Did you apply for a warranty extension as mine is showing 2 years instead of 3. So I need to raise a support case with them

This looks a solid printer, I am seriously thinking about an upgrade. Currys will price match and it's worth their 5 year guarantee as this will inevitably break (edited)

Currys don't sell it mate from what I could see last night

Sadly ho printers are not the simple quality work horses they used to be. It wouldn’t even allow me to set it up without an internet connection. performs behind the scenes firmware upgrades to prevent the use of 3rd party cartridges.

The internet thing is pretty much with most printers and tech these days mate. You have to be connected to big brother.

I just had to get rid of a 15 year Epson SX all in one, all it had was printer cartridge error due to 3rd party cartridge leaking and so it wouldn't let me use the scanner feature. Utterly ridiculous so had enough and got rid.

To be honest these subscription programmes seem to be the thing to go for. This one comes with 9 months free ink, plus people will give a 3 month referral code, so from the outset you've got almost a year of free ink.

Also 99p a month for 10 sheets as the cheapest option isn't bad.

For me it was this or the brother laser at £299 which occasionally drops to £280. But at almost 3 times the cost I thought I'd give this HP a go for a few years. (edited)

I ordered a printer that looks exactly the same as this from a office outlet company on eBay last year. Only cost £37.04 delivered. This is obviously some kind of upgraded model, but I can't fault what I bought. And Instant Ink is definitely the best. Saying that, the reason I bought a new printer was because my old instant ink printer gave some kind of error on the screen related to a firmware update...I couldn't fix it or bypass it. HP couldn't help. Was out of warranty. I found it all a bit shady to be honest, I felt a forced botched update had broken my printer.

I would not recommend go printer because HP now blocked non genuine toners for the HP printer and genuine toners are very expensive and compatible toner won't work.

How do you go about getting the £70 cashback?

I could not find the link that the OP had on their screenshot on my Amazon page but found this link HP Promotions

However, it does say that the retailer needs to be a HP Approved retailer or reseller without providing a list of these. After some more digging, I found a list for the US but not one ofr the UK, so not entirely sure how that would work and if Amazon is acceptable?

Is that due to pricy original cartridge?

There's no list, so assumption is that it is. I've ordered and will be submitting my claim straight away

Mine arrived today. All set up, not used it yet but app download and logged in on all tablets and free 9 months ink activated.

The referral code kindly given from here only gives 1 month, well it did for me, still can't complain.
