i agree they are out of stock at the moment, i bought them in Feb, only 4 months ago. what i said is do a bit of digging, there's compatible ones out there and ways around the firmware. Buy from amazon, if the supplier says compatible, you can send them back, i had to send a officeworld set back because of this. if you want to save money, just do a bit of investigation

NinjaBaz

The cartridges (HP 912) for these printers are not available yet in either Remanufactured or Compatible form. The range itself has been out the best part of a year, so don't expect cheap cartridges anytime soon. Regarding the HP 7720 mentioned above by @smithers1874 - Updates happen every few months and manufacturers have to reprogramme chips every time there's a change... Current working version is v9.

fishmaster

Printers either cost bazillions now or are rare as hen's teeth.

smithers1874

there is indeed a way to get round it. you could disable the firmware updates on your printer but i didn't so did this and this worked https://www.bestprice.ink/en/support/how-to-disable-hp-cartridge-protection-on-my-printer-24 have a 7720 and first set of cartridges didn't work. i then went to these guys and they work fine on my HP https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07YX3JDV6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 just do a bit of digging

NitrousUK

HP also push out firmware to their printers that block non-HP ink. No way to disable. Look up "dynamic security feature"

MarkBamber

ive also been on about 2 years, printer always online. it always runs out of ink and they never send a new one. i have to actually chase support to say send a new cartridge and then i swap and it works again. getting hold of support is a complete nightmare, all automated replies.

ehsangreat

Im using instant ink for 3 years never have any problem, your printer need to be connected to the Internet al the time, as soon I install new cartridge they ship new one same day,

MarkBamber

just dont get instant ink, total turd of a service, never knows how much ink you have, awful comms to actually request more ink. end up just going to shop anyway to buy what you need when needed.

Received the laptop today. Delivery time is less than 24 hours! Cannot comment on overheating. The fan seems to be louder than my dell latitude, but acceptable. The screen has good color, viewing angle and brightness. The Pen comes with the laptop works fine. Didn't do battery test, but at 49% the laptop reports 7 hours of remaining battery time. On lenovo site, c740 gets better reviews than c640, and only £50 more expensive before discount. Maybe that is better choice. My son needs a lighter 13inch to carry every day though.

Just use my son's school email address to sign up an account.

I looked at this link which suggests how you can either downgrade, or a trick to wipe the printer and restart an instant ink deal, looks like there is a work around for people who have purchased a used printer https://www.hotukdeals.com/discussions/hp-instant-ink-free-trial-then-revert-to-15-free-prints-3104453

sarahlizzywalsh

I think you can cancel and resign up because annoyingly instant ink won't let you downgrade but I read online if you cancel you can resign up and drop down the the free account, but I havnt tried it, weather you have to change email I'm unsure. You have to put the code in when you first sign up, as I seem to remeber you do the referral link first then add another code, can't remeber how many you can add but good to try a few combos to see what gives you the max number of months!

ie PIcasa (a legacy app), if you run that do you not end up with tiny text within the app? On a user basis just upgraded by 8 inch Huawei T3 tablet to an M5 lite (8 unch) going from 1280x800 to 1920x1200. I can see that the image is 'better' on the M5 but for all practical purposes it makes no real difference at all. The 16-32 GB storage 2-3GB RAM and Snapdragon 425 -> Kirin 710 processor though all make a very noticeable difference though. ie I am still totally happy with 1280x800 on an 8 inch tablet and 1920x1080 resolution on a 13" laptop. I don't see any real point in going much higher and some potential negatives in needing to drive the extra pixels.

spinach_pie

I don't understand the scaling issues. I have a '3k' Surface Book 2 (3000 x 2000 resolution). It is automatically set to 200% scaling and have experienced not one issue.

peakbear

That was going to be my question, whether you get scaling niggles on on a high Res display. I find you get minor niggles on a 1080 13" displays especially with some older/legacy apps (ie Picasa for example)

Bassinvader

Not if you are canny and tech savvy - Shouldnt be giving all my secrets away but just head to Amazon and look up older toner carts or just do a search for "yellow toner" and sort by price, open em up and refill your carts - just refilled all my HP C1025N colour laser printer carts for less than £20 with toner left over! Got the printer for £20 on ebay too single line down the page fault - simple drum fault but folks will just throw it out or chuck em on ebay another buy new drum on Amazon £18 and its fixed! Since getting a colour laser would never go back to inkjet and its ripoff cartridges, runny ink pages, clogged ink heads and faults that mean its a writeoff! Lasers are easy to repair , refill and the quality and speed is just unbeatable! :{ (nerd)

Jesus, £700 for replacement toner ? There any Brother printers similar where toner does not cost the earth nor the printer. Need to return some Amazon items and we don't own a printer and don't want to go to the drop off shop for printerless sending.

999tigger

Genuinely shocked its not automatic duplex considering the scanner attachment.

greenant

Nice looking printer, resolution and lack of double sided printing aside, but I genuinely can't understand why any business would buy a HP printer. It's 5 times the cost per printed page compared with some other brands. And there's no hope to bring that cost down because HP proactively block compatibles and markets their subscription model to the hilt. Greedy manipulative company.

I was going to get the M254dw before HP discontinued it, and this one is now cheaper. M454dw is just it's bigger brother really. Slightly faster first page, faster page per minute, twice the memory, 50% faster processor, slightly smaller margins, second media tray, can take heavier weight paper, larger output tray, slightly larger, slightly heavier, and so on.

Is there no compatibles available from Xerox? With my laser jet just been using Xerox at half the price of HP

baldude

My HP OfficeJet pro is 2.5 years old and sadly toner prices are still very high. Also the ironically original cartridges that came with were starter pack and hardly printed 150 pages before ink was depleted. Hate HP business model. I've decided to invest more into a printer but low on running costs. With 2 school going kids there was never enough toner and pages.....

cjhilton49

Sorry to hear that,I also use Epson ink printers, and found that refillable cartridges(4) worked fine very few problems, but of course HP and I think Lexmark use tricolour inks so I don't think there is an easy to fit refillable cartridges, mind there are refill kits on Ebay, which means you could try refilling your original HP inks, did you complain to the supplier of the cartridges that didn't work.

Lefty

Where on earth is the code petiole are referring to for £32 credit. Just unboxed and set up, but the free printing plan within the box is for three months!

Thar

You get 15 pages for free forever, (or until they decide to end the scheme), but when you get your free trial, (mine was 12 months, I have 1 month left), you can choose whatever plan you wish, but you can't downgrade to the 15 pages for free. I chose the 300 pages a month plan for the trial, and although I wouldn't normally print more than 15 in a month, sometimes I did go over 15. It's worth noting that this printer prints double sided, as that caught me out a few times. They also allowed me to rollover unused pages up to 100 a month Once the trial ends I will go to 50 pages a month for £1.99 a month for the foreseeable. .

Silhouette

Anyone have the link to the £80 promotion?

jfpowell3

Yes it auto scans, and no, no credit. Just 12 months free ink up to 300 page per month

Nicolas

Automatic duplex scanning. So if I wanted to scan a bunch of documents both sides Does it do that automatically through the feeder ? I have HP 8610 and if I want to scan both sides I have to scan the whole lot once then turn around and scan again the whole lot on the other side As for the ink subscription I guess my question is do they give you credit That you can use on any plan example you can go higher plan and have less months subscription or go lower plan and have more month subscription?

jfpowell3

I’m not sure what you mean by automatic scanning? As for how the 12 months is to be used, I was on a £3.49/100 page subscription, and when I look at my account, it still shows that, however, it is clear that the free 12 months is just that, free ink for 12 months for up to 300 pages. I did initially think the same as you, but you are limited to just 12 months/300 pages. So ..... I’m expecting to pay £0 for the next 12 months, and then resume on my £3.49/100 page subscription. Hope that makes sense.

I emailed over a month ago, got the email saying they had issues eith their system and to submit the query again. I did do - and again, and still no response. Has anyone managed to get them to honour the £20 JustEat? It was a Currys error so they should rectify it as otherwise it was false advertising.

hellop4nda

10th anniversary! Congratulations - hope this lockdown is an enjoyable one for the both of you! Would you be able to forward the images re the Just Eat voucher on Currys own page so that I can forward on the same claim as well? Perhaps by numbers they may take this more seriously.

Un0ri

Lol, I don't know if I can be bothered with the agro for £20. I'm still mulling it over for the principle of false advertising .. but even without that still a great deal. I had an interesting email from instant ink today, they are struggling to get ink shipped, so my next 3 months will not have any subscription charges .. which would be great if I had ink to print with :D

I bought mine on the 11th and it still had the £50 offer on the HP site so when I sent my claim in I just put the 10th as the purchase date and the cashback has been confirmed - hope this helps.

Bought this on the 13th, where the £50 cashback banner was still clearly displayed on the HP website. Received printer today and gone to register for the £50 cashback. Furthest back I can go is the 10th, which is obviously 3 days before I bought my printer. I obviously should have read the T&Cs I guess, but who would have thought that a huge purple banner at the top of the site would be there to mislead a buyer and think to check. Has anyone else here ran into the same problem? It's difficult to contact anyone at the moment to discuss this so asking for advice here in the first instance. Would I be within my rights to return the printer even though I have unboxed it and printed 3 pages, one of which was the calibration page? Thanks

I guess cashback is not available if I order it now https://h41201.www4.hp.com/WMCF.Web/Dispatcher.aspx?action=terms&country=gb&language=en&program=13043&simdate=2020-04-30&ocugid=0
