There have been cases of these with the batteries exploding. Check the probe after use and make sure none of the battery chemicals have leaked into the food. Personally avoid them and get the one with the lead.

This is a good point. Never really crossed my mind about the safety of leaking chems into the food.. kind of changed my mind about this now and may opt for the lead ones.

Any recommendations on a lead version that is wireless also? Thanks

Very solid probe. I have one and use it a lot in summer. Meater support was good when mine looked to be faulty. (User Error)

They do have identical ones on AliExpress for a lot cheaper for people that don't care about getting UK support.

Anyone aware whether the online price for this is higher than in-store? as for grocery shopping the online prices are higher than in warehouse.

I've personally always found they add on costs for delivery to cover their "free" delivery
the wire racking they offer is £5 less in store so suspect this might be similar.

Cannot guarantee but a quick call to your local Costco would confirm (as well as stock I guess)

    How do these charge?
    GLA's avatar
Through the dock. They use the metal contact at the bottom. They are very fussy about it being a very clean contact. BBQ smoke build up will stop it charging. (edited)

    Great for a Rotisserie.
Other than that save yourself save tons of cash and get an Inkbird, for exactly the same results

Who in their right mind would want to pay this for a wireless meat probe with an app when a straightforward meat probe does the job better, quicker and for a fraction of the price?

Are you really wanting to cook meat at home from a beach in Spain?

The main benefit with this is its wireless capabilities. I use it while cooking joints of meat on the rotisserie on my Weber kettle. A £10 to £20 thermometer with cables won't work in this scenario.

Pretty good price which will appeal to some but to me it looks like a solution to a problem which doesn't exist and just adds more bumf to our phones so that in itself is a good enough reason to use something which is standalone.

I can't find a link to the unit I've got which I paid less than £20 for 5 years ago which has a wireless sender and standalone receiver. For this kind of application, I really wouldn't want the faff of using my phone.

It's a brilliant thermometer, especially if you coock a lot using rotisserie or for 20h brisket. It gives you good info on temperature, not only internal but external, and estimates how long it will take to cook, basically makes it impossible to over cook

I couldn't agree more. One probe for food temp and oven temp. I liked my wired one but sometimes it just got in the way, then we had an accident with beer can chicken and thought it was time for the meater. Simple to use, intuitive app. And i'm sad enough to write notes/tips on my cooks for future references

Bought a Govee one last year for £11
    hotukdeals.com/dea…820

Works great with HA + Govee plugin and esp32 BT proxy, Thermometer is detected as soon as it's powered on, adds a temp gauge on the HA dash. Alerts me via an automation when its half/fully cooked via Alexa and phone notifications. works brilliantly (edited)

What's HA and that esp32 stuff I have this and would love to use it better

Good bit of kit and decent price. Had a couple of connections issues but nothing like a lot of people complain about. It's definitely upped my game.

Love mine. I use it for slow cooks in my Kamado and also in the main oven in the kitchen when I'm cooking roasts etc.

I've got a wired temp probe as well but the app means I can get on with other stuff in the house without being tied to watching the thermometer on the wired probe.

I have one of these but didn’t think it could be used on the bbq as the temp could get too hot?

This or the IGrill2 which has annoyingly jumped in price on Amazon over the last couple of weeks? It was on offer but hey…….. (edited)
