    Will using enclosure affect speeds?

    Yes, most enclosures will act as a bottleneck.

    Your typical cheap (<£20) enclosure will max out at 10Gbps (I.e. 1250MBps), so that will be less than a third of the speed the drive is capable of.

    There are some USB Gen 3.2 drives (compatible port needed on computer / laptop) which are more in the £30 range that will up that to 20Gbps.

    Finally you could get a Thunderbolt enclosure (>£60) that will be 40Gbps as so won’t really bottleneck the drive.

    With any enclosure, be aware particularly if doing large sustained transfers, of heat dissipation, as thermal throttling can further slow a drive.
